Initial D sequel anime MF Ghost debuts next week

If you’ve been jonesing for some automotive anime action, your time has come. MF Ghost, the long awaited follow-up to Initial D, will make its debut this coming Sunday. Like its predecessor, it follows the tale of an unlikely racing hero, who takes down far more powerful cars in a Toyota 86. This time, rather than an AE86, it’s the first-generation Toyota 86 (aka Scion FR-S).

Based on the manga of the same name, MF Ghost takes place in the future when autonomous cars are the only ones allowed public roads. The MF Ghost racing series is the sole venue where human-driven cars can still be seen, and we follow an unlikely competitor behind the wheel of the aforementioned Toyota 86.

It seems that some serious suspension of disbelief might be required, as the 197-horsepower 86 must challenge Ferraris, Porsches, Nissan GT-Rs, and more. However, the hero, Kanata Livington, might have an ace up his sleeve in the form of his ace mentor.

The [spoiler alerts for both links] background of MF Ghost runs deep, and it exists in the same universe as Initial D. New episodes will air in Japan every Sunday, starting October 1. If you’re watching outside of Japan, Crunchyroll will stream the series as it airs.

Hi, it’s not far fetched because there is an 100hp upgrade part you can buy that came out a few years ago for the Toyota86 so…

    Fingers crossed on this one.
