Honda has announced that the revived Dax motorcycle is coming to America. The updated classic minibike was announced for the Japanese market in 2022, but now it’s officially crossing the Pacific. It joins Honda’s “mini moto” class of 125cc bikes like the Cub, Monkey and Grom. It’s also probably the most faithful to the original version of all the recently revived motorcycles in Honda’s lineup.
Short for Dachshund, the original Dax (called the CT70 n the US) debuted in 1969 was a tough trail bike that could be easily disassembled and stowed in the trunk of a car. It was designed with foldable handlebars, a removable front wheel, and so that no fuel would spill even if the bike was laid on its side. It was discontinued in 1981, but was so beloved that Honda revived it for the Japanese market from 1995 to 1999.
Like the Monkey 125, the 2025 Dax has been scaled up around the 125cc engine it shares. It’s a significantly larger engine than the original Dax’s 70cc. This time, the 125cc single-cylinder 4-stroke spits out 9.2 horsepower and 8.1 lb-ft of torque to motivate its 236 pounds. While the foldable handles and removable front wheel are no longer part of the design, it maintains the Dax’s trademark T-bone frame to keep its iconic look.
Honda says that the Dax will retail for $4,199 and come in two colors, a Glittering Blue that is reminiscent of a metallic blue from the original CT70 palette, and a more modern Pearl Gray. It hits showrooms in October 2024.
