We at JNC are proud to share the latest Hot Wheels release to bear our inkan logo. A couple weeks ago the third official color of the popular Hot Wheels 1970 Toyota Celica arrived at the JNC office, but as usual we took a blood oath of secrecy not to reveal it ahead of Mattel’s release schedule. Then the Lamley Group obtained leaked images, so here are our official pics.
The Celica is one of our favorites Jun Imai designs, and this version is resplendent in red with tampo-printed black hood and rockers. Normally Hot Wheels designers add fictional racing numbers of personal significance. In this case, the number 22 roundel bypasses this practice by depicting the chassis code of the car, showing a very strong Japanese car enthusiast base emerging from within Mattel. We are also proud to share some livery space with our friends at the JCCS.
Although the racing jacket gives this version a circuit vibe, the colorway of this fictional racer reminds me of the very first Toyota Team Europe rally Celica raced in 1971 (The 1970 Monte Carlo Rally Works Mark II GSS of Vic Elford and the works Rally Bluebirds & 240z also come to mind.)
The MC5 wheels with hot-foil outer lips and black centers round off the look nicely. All in all, it’s a very worthy addition to previous Celicas modeled by Hot Wheels and a very nice racing livery as well.
This is the third official variation of the Celica, with green and yellow being the first two. A couple of very hard-to-find variations exist, yellow with OH5 (open hole 5-spoke wheels) and yellow with a black base.
Each year Mattel lets certain colors predominate, finding its way to numerous cars in the lineup. Let’s just say that for 2014 Rising Sun Red is the order of the day for upcoming J-tin. This Celica is a regular release and can be found in any store across that carries Hot Wheels. Expect to see it on the shelves in approximately three months.
nom nom nom more j-tin hotwheels!!!
I’m definitely going to be picking up a couple of these.
God I hope this reaches the Philippines, already have 2 of the yellow Celica’s, still trying to find a green one for the collection.
PS: I’m still hoping Mattel releases a Corona someday. :0
Damn! I JUST finally found a couple Datsun 620s and and gave up on the yellow Celica and was hoping for a rest… Back to search mode…
i have a few yellow celicas, give me your address ill send it for free 🙂 my email is Kira.P@outlook.com
Is there a place online, where someone can just order the Hot Wheels they want instead of hoping it is available at the local store? I’d even pay a dollar or two extra to just get what I went.
While I’m ranting, I wish Tomy were still updating its Tomica line in the US. Those were so great little cars a few years ago. I got practically all of them and would love some more.
Ebay; but that is where they have the $75 BRE 510 so buyer beware. The more normal stuff is like $5.00. Also, car shows and when I went to the LA County Fair, there was a guy that was selling these JNC (and others) Hot Wheels.
But what fun is that?
Nice, I get a Fuji speedway vibe from this one.
Awesome gonna have to start collecting these now before I have a child and they get crushed haha….
Need…Scandinavian…Sky…Please! 🙂
2009-153 Ferrari F430 Spider-yellow body, black plastic B27 Malaysia base, black interior, smoke windows, FTE wheels with yellow rims, black stripes.
Konami makes the 1/64 RA40 Celica coupe, which I know isn’t a very popular car, but my fingers are crossed for a Hot Wheels version!
