Yokohama Rubber expands selection of ADVAN HF Type D

At the 2018 Tokyo Auto Salon 2018 we saw Yokohama Rubber reveal a neo-Advan HF Type D, wrapped around Work Equip 03s, all displayed a show-stopping, glistening white Hakosuka. Seven sizes were issued then, and now, two years later, Yokohama has announced ten additional sizes to accommodate more classic Nihon steel, expanding the tire selection to seventeen.

Yokohama released the original Advan Type D in 1981, which gained high praise soon after for its trademark racing-slick dimple design on the outside and conventional tread design on the inside. Reproduction of the iconic tire began in 2017, combining current tire compound and structure technology with the design and profile of the original.

The Advan HF Type D was initially available in the following sizes:

  • 225/50 R15 91V
  • 205/50 R15 86V
  • 185/60 R14 82H
  • 195/70 R14 91H
  • 185/60 R13 80H
  • 185/70 R13 86H

Here’s the complete updated list of sizes, which should help accommodate cars with with wider aftermarket wheels:

Unfortunately, a Yokohama representative told us that there are still no plans to sell the tire in the US. Even in Japan, it’s not sold at ordinary tire shops, and orders must be placed online. The new sizes go on sale Friday, March 12 in Japan.

I’m going to have to buy a car to fit these tires onto. I remember not being able to find tires for my 1984 Celica GTS. It’s a problem I wish I still had.

Nengun.com in Japan has them, and ships to the U.S.
