Vintage ANA livery with matching service vehicles

Here’s a Showa Snap taken by our friend Yoshida-san at Haneda Airport near Tokyo. The Boeing B727 is still finished in the old Mohican Blue livery of All Nippon Airways. Matching service cars include what appears to be a T130 Toyota Corona Van and a Toyota Hilux ramp truck. In 1982 ANA celebrated its 30th anniversary by adopting its Triton Blue livery and began phasing out the Mohican Blue. This photo was taken right around that time. Airline colorways are just as beautiful as the best racing liveries. Could there be a museum of airport service vehicles out there?

  1. … I think if only when Stellantis (formerly PSA Peugeot Citroen and Fiat SpA later Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) had acquired / taken over and thus liquidated all of Honda, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Motors alliance, Kawasaki, Hino Motors, Daihatsu, Yamaha, Subaru, Mazda, Suzuki and Isuzu – similar to that of PSA with Chrysler Europe / Chrysler UK (1978) and General Motors for replacing Daewoo’s position with Chevrolet in 2011 (plus General Motors Europe / GM Europe was also pushed out of business by PSA when the latter purchased Opel / Vauxhall in 2017) – then in that case, not only it would have all of their headquarters (from Mazda Hiroshima to Nissan and Isuzu Yokohama) to be turned into centers of technology, testing, among others for Stellantis (to increase much of its presence in Japan and rest of Asia-Pacific including South Korea since the latter is technically a no-go zone for Japan and Japanese due to history) like when General Motors / GM Korea (GMK) continued doing business after Daewoo’s demise – the previous Shinjin Motors company did license productions of Nissan / Datsun and Toyota cars for the South Korean market, but also, most of the aforementioned HQs of Japanese motor companies (which are also “rivals” of Toyota) would end up as museums for every non-German European car (especially from Stellantis NV and Renault Group) doing explotation (or likewise Japsploitation) of Japan’s glory days just as given with this article here.

The following may be shown below, but I think I may consider that as Flodder in Japan, since Flodder was a Dutch film franchise (started with the first movie / film in 1986) as Netherlands is where Stellantis is headquartered there (as well as Mitsubishi assembled cars on Dutch soil until 2012), and the Citroen BX (shared with the Peugeot 405 as both were replaced by Citroen Xantia-C5 plus C5 X and Peugeot 406-407-508 plus 408) was the aforementioned [Dutch] movie’s star car in the same way as Columbo (America / Hollywood) did with the Peugeot 403 cabriolet – in addition Peter Falk was the spokesperson for the 1995 Japanese TV commercial for the E110 Toyota Corolla that the latter also used a Peugeot diesel engine exclusive to the European market…

Therefore, since the station wagon / estate version of the Peugeot 505 (the last FR layout car for a French carmaker and Peugeot too) bore styling similarities with the [Toyota] Corona Van seen on the picture, and while the 505 in Japan was sold only in sedan / saloon form, then it would be fine (but anachronistic) for a wagon-like / estate-like car from Stellantis and Renault to wear the colorways of ANA (All Nippon Airways) from past to present… (For examples, but any of these cars from Europe’s non-Teuton automobile companies are those that are were sold in the Japanese market from yore to present, Renault Kangoo, Renault Lutecia / Renault Clio, Jeep Commander, Jeep Renegade, Jeep Compass but mainly the FCA era generation, Peugeot 2008, Peugeot 3008, Citroen Berlingo, Fiat 500X…)

love the light blue, i’ve been trying to do some research into the panasonic/national livery with the light blue, white and red.
if anyone can point me in the right direction!

  3. Franxou says:

So this is white and light blue, and they kept it on the metal on the bottom, or is it light gray?
Having the same livery on all the support vehicles is a nice touch!

Is that Hilux not even a dually?

Watch out for hop-ons, you’re gonna get hop-ons…

Like many air carriers, Zen Nikku (Zen Nihon Koku) did the Japan Nostalgic Air livery like their Boeing 767-300. Zen Nikku started as a helicopter company, thus the depiction of Leonardo DaVinci’s aerial screw on the tail. ANA’s roots still are still evident today by their IATA airline code “NH”; Nippon Herikoputā Yusō. They were also the first operator of Japan’s only post-war airliner, the YS-11 in 1965.

Side note: One of the most common engines I saw on walk around inspections were the Isuzu 4 cylinders on baggage belt loaders. They were everywhere in the world.
