The Work VS-KF# revives a 5-spoke favorite

Work Wheels’ iconic VS-KF wheel is making a comeback. Announced at the Tokyo Auto Salon over the weekend, the tuner favorite will enter production again later this year after a long hiatus. The revived version, called Work VS-KF#, has seen the internet light up with schadenfreude for hoarders of the originals, but perhaps there are some slight differences.

Preferred by VIP enthusiasts, drifters, and stance fiends alike, the VS-KF’s unique 5-spoke design has been a staple of the Japanese aftermarket scene since its debut in 2001. It was discontinued in 2017, but remains popular in the tuning world to this day due to its bold, blade-like spokes.

The revived VS-KF# is pronounced VS-KF sharp, not pound or, god forbid, hashtag. Work says it was named after the musical notation that indicates a half-step above.  spokes have a slightly different contour.

The profile of the spokes have been tweaked as well, but it would take a sharp (no pun intended) eye to discern the difference. Their z-axis curvature still allows from a pretty dramatic sweep towards the wheel center, but with less concavity.

Work is offering a choice of silver, red, or black center caps with gold lettering, just like they do on other VS-line wheels. The 3-piece wheels can either have a stepped lip or a smooth “reverse” lip in a choice of six different finishes. The VS-KF# comes in black metallic or light grayish silver. Oddly, there is no chrome option.

The Work announcement doesn’t mention any size other than 21-inch, but says the PCDs will fit a variety of makes and models. The VS-KF is still very much sought after, but hard core wheel nerds will probably still seek out the originals. For everyone else, there’s a new option that can be had without dealing with the drudgery that is Facebook Marketplace.

I’ve always been intrigued by these wheels. They remind me so much of those American Racing five-spoke wheels found on the American muscle cars, yet here we are with Work working them into the big four-door sedans. I think these wheels look pretty darn good, but only look good with certain cars, and in low offsets where big lips are pronounced. They definitely don’t scream “speed,” but more so “cruising down the boulevard.”
