The ND Mazda Miata is as pure a car as can exist today, but if there’s one thing it lacks, it’s fun colors. However, a few lucky enthusiasts in Japan will soon get to own one in A6Y Sunflower Yellow, known in the US as Competition Yellow from the 2009-10 NC Miata. It’s officially called the Mazda Roadster FSW Ver.2, and only six will be built.
Technically, this isn’t an official Mazda Motor Corporation creation, but the brain child of four Japanese Mazda dealers: Kanto Mazda, Shizuoka Mazda, Tokai Mazda, and Koshin Mazda. However, all the paint will be done at Mazda Engineering & Technology, the Mazda subsidiary that builds Mazda’s concept cars. Located in in Hiroshima, Mazda E&T is wholly owned by Mazda Motor Corporation so the Roadster FSW Ver.2 is about as official as one can get.
The paint job will cost ¥1,452,000 (approximately $9400 USD) so it’s not cheap. It includes the body, of course, but also the color-matched parts on any standard Mazda Roadster, which includes the interior upper door trim, air conditioning vents, and key fob. Each car will come with a certificate from Mazda E&T to authenticate its provenance.
Additionally, anyone who buys a Roadster FSW Ver.2 will be able to bring a guest to the ultimate Mazda vacation. The two-day, one-night tour of Hiroshima will include a visit to the Mazda headquarters, Mazda Museum, and Mazda E&T Factory.
With only six units demand is expected to be high, so the right to purchase one will be decided by lottery. Incidentally, its name comes from Fuji Speedway, where the 2026 Mazda Fan Festa will take place on October 3-4. Prospective buyers can apply for the lottery then, with winners announced at the main stage before the end of the event.
