The ‘Initial D’ Bunta Fujiwara Zippo is the last lighter you’ll ever need

Zippo lighters are kind of a default branded accessory in Japan’s aftermarket. There have been countless automotive-themed Zippos released, with everything from Fairlady Zs to a Land Cruisers etched into the case. There have been  Zippos themed for specific manga and anime fandoms, including Initial D, of where there have been multiple official models. However, the latest one example might just be the Zippo tie-in to end all Zippo tie-ins.

Of course, for any Initial D goods, the default image would have to be the main character, Takumi Fujiwara, or his Toyota AE86. If not Takumi, then perhaps the next biggest characters, one of the Takahashi brothers and their Mazda RX-7s. But those are seriously low-hanging fruit, kind of like just slapping your company logo on a water bottle and calling it merch.

But if the product is going to be a cigarette lighter, why not feature one of the most consummate chainsmokers in anime history? Throughout Initial D, Bunta Fujiwara is rarely seen without a lit dart dangling from his lips. His pausing to take a deep drag before dispensing a street racing koan is a recurring theme in the series. He even casually sparks up a lungduster as he drifts the AE86 to test newly installed mods, scaring the crap out of his friend Yuichi riding shotgun.

The Bunta Zippo is finished in black nickel and laser-engraved with a closeup of Fujiwara-san on one side, and a scene of him with the AE86 and Impact Blue 180SX on the other (though we wish it was his Subaru instead). Only 150 will be produced, and each will come with a serial number engraved.

Of course, this will only be sold in Japan and cost ¥16,500 ($104 USD). To get your nicotine-stained hands on them you’ll need to have a friend there.
