Listen up, Toyotaku. There’s an extremely rare RT90 Toyota Corona coupe for sale in Fresno. The Corona is kind of Toyota’s red-headed stepchild, having continued on with a leaf sprung rear long after the rest of the line from Corolla to Cressida evolved a four-link setup. And obviously, anyone looking for a sporty Toyota coupe in 1971 would have gone with the Celica.
The succinct seller promises only 60,000 miles, new tires and current tags. Also, it “runs good.” What more do you need? It’s not your typical kidney car either because the price is a just-an-old-Toyota $1,200. Buy it. You’ll be the only one at the next Toyotafest.
nothing wrong with leaf-sprung rear. drop an i-force V8 in it and a quick-change 9 inch rear end… or leave it stock..
Just needs a set of lowering blocks.
(And some 60 size tires).
STOCK!
;oP
i’ve seen these come and go over the years, but so far nobody has held on to one for very long. very likely because they are not “accepted” by the peer crowd
Wow, my parents had one of these when I was a kid. It would be fun to have it for nostalgia sake.
The coolest cars are all in California, aren’t they?
No, because all the Crowns are up there near you… 😉
Ben, you of all people should jump on that!
Haha, I got too many projects already. I just hope this puppy finds a good home.
What I want to know is why are all the dang Corona automatic?
I’ve passed up buying two because of this. I don’t mind converting to stick, but where do you find the parts?!? 🙂
That’s easy. Just go find an engine and trans from a late 70s Toyota pickup. They are cheap and you get a nice compression upgrade with a 20r and half a dozen trans ratios to choose from. Personally i would get a 5 spd from an early celica as it has a short 1st gear as apposed to the others in its family, just harder to come by…
I have the parts to convert it to a manual and a 18RG. The issues is getting it to the east coast
Road trip!
Sounds like a plan! And for $1200 how can you resist?
If this was for sale in Ga for $1200, We would all be fighting over it the minute it was posted. I bet it would sell withing 1-2 days on atlanta craigslist.
I had one in same color but it was a stick ,i want to buy it but ad is no longer up 🙁
I had one of these when I lived in Japan. I wish I had seen this ad back in 2011!
I have one of these. I’m having a hard time finding parts for it.
