If there’s anything Gran Turismo is known for, it’s having a zillion variations of the Nissan Skyline. The tradition continues with the latest Gran Turismo 7 update, which adds the R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R NISMO to the list of playable cars. The homologation special is a worthy addition to the many Group A-derived street cars that are already in the game.
In 1990 the R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R began its domination of the Japan Touring Car Championships, replacing the R31 Skyline GTS-R as Nissan’s Group A weapon choice. of No one knew it at the time, but it would win every single race it entered, 29 in all, during the years it was active.
The GT-R NISMO had a number of tweaks to homologate it to Group A standards. Among them, revised “NISMO duct” intakes on the front fascia, metal turbos (as opposed to ceramic) that provided more linear torque, and a host of subtle aero tweaks around the body. It shaved about 30kg off the curb weight with the deletion of items such as aircon, stereo system, ABS, and rear wiper.
The R32 Skyline GT-R NISMO is joined by the classic 1967 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT Veloce and the Greening Ford Maverick, a twin-turbo 1,200-horsepower restomod that was a SEMA Gran Turismo Best in Show winner.
Nissan built only 560 R32 Skyline GT-R NISMO editions. Of those, 60 were reserved for racing and 500 were sold to the public. One thing’s for sure, it’ll be a lot easier to acquire one in Gran Turismo.
Nice addition for sure (as are the others). If one thing is still missing in GT7 for me, it’s the older JDM stuff. That’s kind of what the series is built off of for me. Acquiring & driving the old Japanese tin that I’ll never own in the real world.
The lack of Celicas so far (other than st205) makes me sad. I’d also like the AW11 to be added.
I mean racing actual fast cars is fun & all, but I dunno…I always primarily used GT as a Toyota Collecting Simulator.
