QotW: What are you asking Japanese Santa Claus for this year?

After a grueling year, the year-end holidays are hopefully a time when we can all wind down and relax. It’s also a time for hope, and a time when we traditionally ask what you’d request from a magical man who can conjure up any present your heart desires. After all, Japanese Santa Claus rides around on a sleigh that looks like a flying Honda S800 but has a Tardis-like trunk that’s bigger on the inside than the outside. Contained within are any JDM car part you can think of, the rarest diecasts, entire classic automobiles, and even abstract concepts such as world peace.

The most entertaining comment by next Monday will receive a prize. Scroll down to see the winner of last week’s QotW, “Which car should receive the factory restoration treatment next?

We had a lot of great answers this week, some realistic and some pie-in-the-sky, but that’s the fun of these questions, right? The most realistic suggestion was probably Lee L’s DC2 Integra Type R, since Honda already has a program for the NSX and the DC2 seems like it would be the next logical step. There were niche sports cars like charlie bigsby‘s Sports 800 or Crank_case‘s Suzuki Cappuccino, and cars straight out of left field like banpei‘s Mitsubishi Galant AMG.

We also appreciated the non-garage queen cars like dankan‘s recommendation of the AE86 and S13, or Hector‘s suggestion of the first-gen RX-7, AE86, and CRX. F31Roger didn’t just suggest a car, but the concept of the historic machines that made the brands they represent.

There could only be one winner this week, though, and it to be Lupus, who pitched the FC and FD Mazda RX-7. A few days later, Mazda announced a heritage parts program for those exact two cars! You can’t ask for better timing than that.

Mazda FD & FC. Due to it’s engine’s uniqueness. And they’re both wonderful cars.
And A80 Supra. Because most of them had been modded in some way, some with hi-class gear & good taste, some with plastic junk and putty.

I want a right side face lift tail light in good condition for my z20 soarer., and perhaps a igntion model 1/18 scale two tone model. Ahh, and rear trunk seal.

  2. Lupus says:

THX for making me a winner again 😉

    To this weeks question’s point:
I wish that the COVID vaccines will really do a difference and allow us to slowly get back to normality.
Overall I wish for the next year to be better then the passing one. I will loose my job in the 1st quarter of 2021 due to “national saving’s politics” – i work in educational sector. So I hope that I’ll find a new workplace and still be able to afford mysefl maintaing my JNC Daihatsu on one hand, and use another JDM daily car on the other.

  3. Banpei says:

I have mostly what I need, so I don’t have anything I really need to ask for. So instead I’m going to ask the Japanese Santa Clause to get my buddy Daniel O’Grady for a financial donation to get him this awesome Toyota Corona ST140 hardtop:

He really deserves to get his own JNC after 10 years of rusty cars spotting in Japan!

Bigger brakes for my V6 Accord Coupe.

My car isn’t quite old enough to be a JNC, but my Bugeye WRX could use some love. Rather than trying to load it up with the latest tech, I want to keep the spirit of the original owner alive and modify is like it’s still 2002. I’ve been on the hunt for period correct Defi gauges, Yokohama Super Advan Ver.2s, and a nice set of JDM headlights. Pretty much all the cool stuff I wanted when I saw my first WRX at a Nisei week when I was in middle school. If Santa wanted to gift me a line on any of this I’d appreciate it.

I cant complain. I’ve been very lucky this year to get a 300zx and a new stillen exhaust for it. I’d like jnc Santa to help jnc-ers who are less fortunate than myself.

A decent Geo (Suzuki) Tracker, two door to replace a family member’s stolen one. Two doors are going in hours on Craigslist. We gifted it to her a couple of years ago after I tweaked it really nice. It was awesome. I’m still sick…

  8. Ellis Castle says:

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. Total control and ownership of the company. For decades Mitsubishi made some of the coolest cars around (FTO, GTO, EVO, GSR, Starion and many more!) and now look at them. I’m not saying I’d be better at running a car company than current management but I don’t see how things could be much worse. Toyota, Subaru, Honda, Mazda & Nissan are all making excellent sports cars right now. The era of the internal combustion engine is coming to an end. I don’t want the Evo X to have been Mitsubishi’s performance car swan song. They can do better. We deserve better. As fans and as enthusiasts.

And if for some reason ownership of a car company wont fit in Santa’s sack then give me a zero miles Tommi Makinen Evo.

Thanks for a great year JNC! And Merry Christmas to everyone.

Step 1 would be to put the powertrain from the last Evo into the Mirage. Don’t bother with anything other than FWD, don’t even spend too much on tamping down torque steer, keep it cheap but put a ridiculous amount of power into the lightest possible car.

Working in the medical field (doing cardiac and vascular sonography), I was 1st wave to get vaccinated for COVID19. I hope the vaccinations get the number down.. the hospitals I work at have their covid wards filled.

My wishful thinking list is for things to get done.
    1. Waiting for the body shop (my friend owns) to finish up my Zenki face M30. The RB25det, interior and other stuff is just waiting for the car to get back to LA.

    2. That my “COVID19 DELAYED” Diana kit for my blue M30 arrives state side. Hopefully the Project Leopard is somewhat running and in the final stages. I want to start a VIP build and I want to start on a VH45de.
2a. I also have R31 door cards, f31 parts, magazines, gifts… that are waiting for things to normalized (partner shipping companies).

    3. Open up borders for leisure travel.
3a. My Infiniti M30 convertible in stuck in Vancouver BC, a couple hours away from my parent’s house in WA. I’ve been to WA 3 times and I can’t even work on my vert (door damage).
3b. Earlier this year (2020), I was in Japan before the pandemic hit. I make my annual trips based on if there is a leopard meeting, but if not, I would go sometime in the 1st part of the year. .

    4. Start to gather parts for my dad’s 98 Chevy Metro (Suzuki Swift).

Until things start to get better, it’s all domestic travel and projects. I’m up here in the PNW for Xmas, but gathering parts for Project leopard (https://www.instagram.com/p/CJEjGZ9sVyk), meeting with my PNW M30 guys while here. In January, AZ is top of my list to spend a weekend working on the Project Leopard, then Las Vegas, and of course LA.

  10. I just want to get back to Japan. I miss my friends.

I want this kit to turn an NB Miata into a 1930s Alfa Romeo Grand Prix car.

That would be cool if you could make it street legal.
