We recently stumbled upon a thread of old Tokyo photos on the architecture site SkyscraperCity. Though the focus was the buildings, we came for the cars. Just look at these pictures and dream of being amongst these machines when they were still new.

Tremendous! As a kyusha otaku and a Tokyo-ite, both… Neko.
Crowns everywhere…very cool. And many B110’s.
Think I see a Pontiac in the second to last photo.
If I had a 126X I would park it on shag carpet also.
Very cool . I spot a datsun 1000 4door 🙂
I spot a kujira Crown Wagon.
Love the pic titled ‘wires’ with that first gen Gallant. Great shot.
More of these photos please!
Please start a Flashback Friday feature 🙂
What’s a Pontiac Lemans doing in 1970’s Japan?
Great Pics! Loved riding the Haneda Monorail, and that pic is exactly as I remembered it.
It was sad to see the classic city street cars quickly eliminated in the 70’s. The taxi cabs would cheat and pass cars by going on their cobblestone lined tracks, and the tires on the cobblestones made such a cool sound.
F**k, that’s my childhood right there!!
not sure if you guys noticed link in the thread but there are some other great photos in that flickr account, especially of old Japanese Cars in their natural 80s habitat:

That’s a G130 Cedric in the last photo behind the white 1600. Would have loved to see one as new…
Ive been a member of ssc for around 10 years now. Good site, but it used to be a lot more active/better. Good thread though.
