Nissan’s twin-cam L-series head gets $25,000 price tag

Back in February 2024 Nissan unveiled a prototype of its twin-cam L-series head, gauging public reaction to see if they should put it into production. In June 2025 it was greenlit. Now we have a price tag of ¥3.85 million, or approximately $25,000 USD and a new release date.

The anticipated release date of fall 2025 has been pushed back to January 2026. The NISMO-engineered head not only adds a camshaft but increases displacement from 2,753 to 2,949 cc. Power rises from a stock L28’s 153 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque to 296 horses and 217 lb-ft. Perhaps best of all, it’ll have a 7500 rpm redline.

The existence of this kit is made possible by recent developments in small-batch production, which has allowed Japanese automakers like Nissan, Toyota, Mazda, and Honda to launch heritage parts programs for classic models. As such, production of the twin-cam kit isn’t indefinite, and will be limited to 300 units.

Furthermore, even if you show up with 25 grand it’s not guaranteed you’ll get one. NISMO will only accept an order from L-series specialty shops. Orders will open in January 2026, likely coinciding with the Tokyo Auto Salon.

  1. Too bad they are limiting production. I could see there being voracious demand if it was widely available and a little lower in price. Hopefully it will encourage them to make some design tweaks and release a second run that is available to everyone.

Doubling the horsepower with a 7500rpm redline, AND a slick NISMO valve cover, while keeping the car tasteful and consistent instead of desecrating it with an American V8 is worth the $25k imo. Hope to see more of this from Nissan and other manufacturers.

Very cool that the folks at Nissan/Nismo still have passion for the old L-series motors. The engineer in me is curious to know if they based the head design off any other Nissan engines?

Correct me if I’m wrong, isn’t the OS Giken head about the same price? With that, you get timing gears and a 9000+ rev limit. I suppose with this you’re getting a factory backed product which in itself is pretty neat.

Seconding Sahir – for another ~$10,000, I’d go in for the OS Giken TC24 with timing gears and potential for more revs and power.

Riddle me this, how does a cylinder head increase displacement,
