Mazda relentlessly brags about how it’s the most raced marque in America. Now it’s apparently gunning for the world. Today at SEMA, alongside the world’s first Miata race car — built from one of the Chicago Auto Show display models — Mazda revealed the first ND race car.
It’s all part of a greater plan to develop the Spec Miata racing series globally, To ensure every one is on a level playing field, one spec sheet and one builder will supply the entire one-make series worldwide.
It was circulated that the US would get a 2.0L SkyActive-G motor in the new MX-5 while the rest of the world received a 1.5. With today announcement, however, Mazda says that all Spec NDs will be equipped with a 2.0L engine. Power figures were not disclosed at this time. Will Mazda become the most raced marque in the world, With 940,000 MX-5s sold since 1989, it seems that’s a solid bet.
Looks even better in racing form… 🙂
Wow, does it ever look good in race trim. Looking forward to seeing more track builds using this platform.
