The next Japanese nostalgic Hot Wheels for 2017 is going to be a very special one, as it is the first classic J-sled to be modeled after someone’s personal car. That person would be our friend Roy De Guzman of the Wild Cards, and his white Skyline with a kaido racer-inspired graphic of his own design.
Sure there have been 1:64 tributes to actual race cars like the BRE 510 or Toyota 2000GT, but this Hako represents the personal ride of a regular car guy like us. Roy certainly deserves it, too. He was one of the first to own a Hakosuka Skyline in the US, which we featured in JNC nine years ago in its original all-white form, then again last year after its kaido racer debut at JCCS.
Best of all, Hot Wheels designer Jun Imai, who made all this happen, let Roy reveal the diecast to the world on his own Instagram account. So how does it feel to have a car you customized immortalized in a Hot Wheels? “I really am overwhelmed by all of this,” Roy said. We joked about how he’s asked for autographs from us for JNC-inkan‘ed Hot Wheels over the years. Now we’ll be asking for his.
