The Hot Wheels Mazda RX-7 FC3S was already one of our favorite new castings of the year, but the next recolor really cements it in our list of all-time greats. As revealed by the Hot Wheels Dream Team of Mattel’s designers, Pure white will be the color of choice, unencumbered by graphics and matched with white split-spoke wheels. It really looks era correct, and is the perfect toy for living out your fantasies of being as cool as Ryosuke Takahashi.
When we went bananas over the prototype a year ago, we didn’t yet know how cool it would look with paint. The debut color of red was appropriate for the bright and colorful 80s, but like the real car the Series 5 FC3S born in 1989 would soon enter the high-tech 90s. Somehow, this little diecast is completely transformed with just a color and wheel swap. White paint with wheels of simple design were suddenly the way to go, making it look more like a midnight racer. We love it, and will definitely be on the lookout for it.
I’m waiting for my Cada RX-7 FC in white with the Initial D license…
I’m glad to see HW make more Japanese cars. I did have a hard time finding the FC (one of my buddies in LA found me one). My collection is dominated by FDs and SA22s… But I do have the red FC and Tomica’s Initial D FC as well.
Does anyone know where I can buy this?
