You’ve asked for it. You’ve demanded it. You’ve even threatened to pick up pitchforks for it. Well, here it is! We are very, very excited to give you the first sneak peek at the next Hot Wheels to wear the JNC inkan, the Mazda RX-3!
Featuring a massive racing spook, ducktail spoiler and Katayama flares, it’s a tribute to the Savanna RX-3 touring cars that raced in Japan in the 1970s. It’s incredibly detailed, with each flare displaying its individual rivets, rear vents and a meticulously designed interior.
Perhaps just as cool, also debuting on this casting is a new set of wheels. Inspired by a vintage Japanese racing setup, they’re of a 4-spoke design. They are detailed enough that you can see molded lug nuts. And to top it all off, it comes with new hippari stretched tires.

The Hot Wheels RX-3 was was created by long-time Mattel designer Mark Jones, and will be part of an upcoming 2016 series. The model you see here is a pre-production zinc prototype.
If you are planning to attend the Japanese Classic Car Show today, stop by the JNC booth. this exact prototype will be on display this morning. A few of you did guess correctly based on the pixelated image from yesterday, but real eagle eyed viewers may have recognized a clue from the back-of-inkan sketches we posted on Instagram recently. The final color and graphic scheme will be revealed when the RX-3 gets closer to its on-sale date.
I knew it! Had to throw the non Nissan fans a bone, and this one is juicy . Next should be a Cosmo .
I knew it! It’s beautiful. Can’t wait to get my hands on one of these.
I don’t think that I have ever been this excited about a hot wheels car before.
Ditto!!!
Wow…very much looking forward to finding one (or a few)of these !
Also see the Bajan Rx3 that is STILL racing in the Caribbean!

Pitchfork carrier here checking in. Damn… If I would have known I would have made the drive to SoCal for JCCS just for this. Yes, for us diehard rotorheads it’s long overdue but I have to admit it looks completely worth it. Just look at the detail! It’s even wearing the Savanna hexagon tails! I plan on buying every last one of these I can find when they are released.
The car us great but the wheels are the big story here! I’ll be buying a bucket of them to rob the wheels for building ae86s, e30s, 510s, 620s, etc, etc.
SO. MUCH. WANT!!!
Looking forward to this, and about time some older Mazda classics got made. Even though the RX3 coupe isn’t my favourite I’ll be hunting for some, but would love the R100 or RX2 coupe to be considered next.
Agreed. Long overdue. There is far more to the J-tin world than the usual Datsun’s. Of course I’m biased but they are far too common.
Do want !!!!
I am so happy that I making an Rx 3 I also want them to make these Rx 100and Rx 2 even the Toyota Corolla 1.8 does will be a collection for all car enthusiasts
Great! Next should be a ’71-’74 Corolla TE27
Awesome! Thanks Hot Wheels!
