Remember that hunka hunka road burnin’ Mazda we posted? Well apparently the cost to set the streets of your neighborhood afire is $11,000. Holy racing stripes, Batman! The 1977 Mazda RX-3 SP was and appearance package for the American incarnation of the Savanna.
To be perfectly honest, this one is missing some key SP pieces like the rear window louvers and super-sized chin spoiler (kind of makes one wonder if it’s a real SP). It’s also rather far from stock, with a half-bridgeported 12A, aftermarket clutch sandwich and Enkei 92 meshies painted to match. But it is rust free an apparently an exact match for the original color (though this is also the first time we’ve seen a white SP). Hey, an cancer-free 3 is hard enough to find in any condition. So is it worth 11 large? Apparently, yes! More pics after the jump or see the auction on ebay.
Familia no! Savanna yes!
Geez, doesn’t anyone proofread these things!? (thanks) 🙂
And I thought they only came in red? interior looks like its never been sat in!
love the 3…
those american bumpers look awful though
wow this car is making me feel a little funny in the nether regions….
hey i have the louvers and the tale for the sp i have an sp myself. if anyone has the door for the glove box for a R100 pls let me know im looking for one.
Pnutsr1: You might have more luck posting in the Swap Meet section of the forum. http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/forum/
The SP’s came in white, red, gray, yellow and blue.
I am not 100% sure what fitments USA RX3’s came with. But it looks like there are a lot of 808 Coupe parts on that.
Still, if its a rust free body who is going to know at 60 mph!
Thank you Ben for the advise. I have an rx3sp to it’s red and black stickers and 17inch epsilons. That’s a nice sp I like the yellow paint
The SP came in silver (OK you can call it grey), slightly off white (the most common), blue (Miata type bright blue), a rusty red, yellow, and a bright yellowish lime green. The green is the real hard one to find, but looks the best imo. Totally psychedelic with the stripes. Yellow is not too common, either. Unique among the RX3’s, the interior on the SP was straight 808 except for the tach. The stripes and add-ons were optional, and ended up on only some of the cars.
Crack Pipe! CRACK PIPE!!
Oh my, i <3 this car!
Just for Clarification, would the rusty red actually come off as Orange? Because if not, I have to add another color to the ’77 SP spectrum which is…Orange.
