Today is 86 Day, and in honor of the momentous occasion, we at JNC are sharing some of the favorite examples of Toyota’s game-changing drift machine that we’ve seen over the last decade, starting with the most recent one spotted at Mooneyes Area 1 in Yokohama in June.
Russ Capulong’s kidney-worthy bone-stock kouki hatch was our official booth car at Toyotafest this year.
Russ’s car was also featured at the official Toyota USA 50th Anniversary of the Corolla party in New York.
We made AE86 Christmas cookies in 2015. You can still download the cookie cutter mold and make your own if you have a 3D printer.
Just a bunch of clean, Japanese-style AE86s at Hachimaru Meeting at Fuji Speedway.
A random Tokyo sighting from Skorj’s three-part treatise on Parking in Japan.
Another random sighting on a Grand Tour to Yamagata Prefecture.
A lineup of beautiful hatches at AE86 Nights.
AZN Motorsports’ clean, green beauty at Toyotafest 2014.
The beautiful zenki coupe built by Duane Tomono and Janet Fujimoto at Toyotafest 2013.
Our own Hot Wheels version with the JNC inkan from 2012!
On the red carpet at Nos2Days.
The Tec-Arts Black Limited at the 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon.
Our editor-in-chief Ben’s own blue panda hatch at AE86 Nights.
Our Australian Editor Kevin San’s Levin hatch from way, way back in the day (he’s old).
However, the ultimate tribute to the AE86 was paid in 2011 when Toyota launched the Toyota 86/Scion FR-S. Happy 86 Day!
I like the red Corolla GT-S in the 2nd and 3rd photo. I also like the AE86 Corolla in the last photo just before comments. Very nice cars. i’d buy one if it were as bone stock as it came. I like this generation Corolla the best, because it was the final generation of rear-wheel drive Corollas sold in North America. 🙂
Just like em all!
Hey Ben – NICE ride!
Never seen one in the 2-tone blue. Definitely different, and a nice change from the seemingly-always red or white.
Bet it gets a lot of attention at cruises!
