If you’ve gotten JNC Vol. 04 you’ll have seen our tribute to the 1985 Toyota Corolla GT-S, now officially a nostalgic in the US thanks to the 25-year rule. Though this car would become the poster child for drifting 15 years later, Toyota USA never bragged about its flingability. Not so on other continents! Check out this official video by Toyota, in which they take a pair of AE86s to Europe’s most famous circuits — Nürburgring, Spa, Zandvoort — and let famous rally drivers loose behind the wheel of some bone stock hachiroku. Happy 8/6 Day, JNCers! Video below the fold.
And as a bonus, here’s a Round Two of the 1985 Corolla/Sprinter Grand Cup at Fuji Speedway.
Happy HR day to you too!
Per Eklund and Klaus Fritzinger are the test drivers in this video and they test the AE86 on the (new) Nurburgring, Zandvoort and Spa. Zandvoort and Spa were still Formula One circuits when these videos were shot and the ring was making a comeback the year after. Imagine the impact this publicity stunt would have had back then! 😉
Also the two Levins are the RHD JDM GT Apex models. Europe wasn’t so lucky and only got the GT models delivered as highest grade…
They also brought along a Trueno which is in the second video I posted here:

The Trueno video shows more sideways action than the Levins in the first video. 🙂
Happy 8 – 6 day !! I saw a Starlet in the race group, in the Fuji Speedway vid. (Very very competitive race class).
man, the music on the first video is absolutely porn-tastic!
oh man that was on radical 80’s tastic sound track, awsome video

Me wants!
Whoa… Did I see some Starlets in the Grand Cup video?
I counted at least four. (orange, black, black & red, white.)
