You knew this was coming all along but today it’s official: Lexus LF-A hooning, Toyota 2000GT rallying Akio Toyoda is the new Prez of Toyota. All hail! Is it a well timed leak or mere coincidence that on the same day, news came that a Supra successor will be unveiled this fall at the Tokyo Motor Show? The rumors are nothing we haven’t heard before – based on the FT-HS concept, V6 hybrid drivetrain, yada yada yada – but a 2011 sale date? The Lexus LF-A is also supposedly showing at the TMS so hopefully this isn’t a case of mistaken identity. If not and the rumors are true, all this plus the Project 086a is enough to make our Toyotaku heads explode.
Thanks to RoadsterViking for the tip!
thats what the F*** im talkin bout!!!
thats the big T for ya!!!!
Oooooooo. But i’ll much rather they make a replacement for the JZX100 (i do not consider the JZX110 a proper replacement). Double wishbone, multi-link rear, 1jz vvti and RWD. Mmmmmmm….
I’m a recovering Toyotaholic, I think I may relapse!!!
Recovering Toyotaholic? They always come back 🙂
You might find this interesting…
A very interesting read! Thanks, TG.
Does anybody know when Akio’s birthday is? Because if this works out,I see a whopping big box of chocolates going his way! 🙂
Ummm yummy… 😀
One industry head said that they could get the public to accept hybrid/electric cars if they made them look normal or indistinguishable from regular cars, instead of aero style golf carts.
Tesla’s approach was to build an electric sports car and once the performance level was proven, the burden of convincing the public was lifted.
Toyoda wants to wait until after the end of the recession before building cars with emotion. But a hybrid performance car might provide emotion and a good selling point with rising fuel prices. The only problem is that the car doesn’t look conventional enough to blend in with the gasoline powered cars, and the styling alone would make that car a hard sell with a gasoline only drive train. It’s doing a very good impersonation of an amphicar.
I like Toyota! They develop very good cars. Toyota is wonderful, Luck for Akio Toyoda! Greeting from Argentina.
