KIDNEY, ANYONE? Plaid-tastic 1980 Dodge Challenger, aka Mitsubishi Galant Λ

A 1980 Mitsubishi-built captive import Dodge Challenger has appeared on Harrisburg, Pennsylvania’s Craigslist. Advertised as a one-owner, garage kept, car, it might be one of the finest examples left in the country.

Though badged as a Dodge, the car is actually a high-end Mitsubishi Galant Λ, an opulent personal coupe for the discerning urbanite. Finished in a timeless silver-black-red three-tone, it’s the perfect chariot in which to pull up to a Roppongi nightlife establishment smelling of Mandom.

Cabin-wise, the tricolor theme is repeated in a glorious plaid pattern on the door panels and upholstery. And what’s that in the center console? A proper 5-speed manual to get the most out of that torquey Astron 2.6.

According to the ad, it has 114,000 miles on the 5-digit odometer, it hasn’t been driven since 2010, and as is being sold “as is”. We appreciate the honesty, but since there’s no price listed it’s likely going to be a bidding situation. If you are so inclined, you can see the ad on Craigslist Harrisburg and give the owner a call. What’s it worth to you?

It was sold as a Sapporo here in the states under the Plymouth banner.

      And the Dodge Challenger!

Naming it “Challenger,” when people remembered the original may have hurt it, but it was still a nice car, and honestly, it was no worse as a “Challenger” than were the ’75-’78, or the Omni-based, ’81-’87 “Chargers.”

It makes me wish I lived in the USA but sadly I live in a country where everything is overpriced as the prime minister here is corrupted and is pretty much taking everyone’s money as he is in quite a pickle

  3. Scotty G says:

Gorgeous! This is a rare case where I would think 14,000 miles not 114,000. It’s usually the other way around.

  4. Hovork_K says:

Awesome, hard to believe, all still original except black bumpers, like Scotty G said looks the other way around only when you look at the engine you see that it had a decent paint lately.
Kudos to the owner. mine is in the garage for 22 years waiting for a full restoration.

I’ve seen ONE in the past 5-ish years, so yeah, I can really appreciate this.

Mitsu made some cool cars – arguably better-looking than the Toyotas and Hondas of the time, though that admittedly COULD be because their rarity always made them stand out.

    Man, what happened?
