Toyota Land Cruiser teaser for 2024 seems to confirm retro front end

A new teaser released by Toyota portends good things for the upcoming 2024 Land Cruiser. Its return has been highly anticipated return after leaving the US market at the end of the 2021 model year. The image pictures it in silhouette alongside a classic FJ40, and although dark we can confirm a few rumors that have been swirling around regarding the new ultimate off-road rig.

The most interesting reveal is that if you look closely at the front end (2nd image), the new Land Cruiser appears to have a round headlight bezel and perhaps a horizontal side marker light similar to that of the FJ Cruiser. That supports a rumor that the 2024 Land Cruiser would have retro styling inspired by its FJ40 and J70 predecessors. Interestingly, the rumors said that the retro front end would be primarily a US-only thing. Europe may get it, but it won’t be available in Japan, Australia or other markets.

The other thing we can confirm with this teaser is that the Land Cruiser will be based on the next-generation Land Cruiser Prado to be sold in other markets. We basically knew that already, but it’s good to receive horse’s mouth confirmation. In the past, we in the US have only gotten the Land Cruiser Prado as the Lexus GX. This new profile looks quite similar to the recently released Lexus GX with its boxy hood and greenhouse.

The same rumor that presaged the retro face also said that the Land Cruiser would be built more as a hard-core off-roader than the previous-gen J200. That should mean a drop in price and fewer luxury bells and whistles. It’s certainly a positive development that makes us all the more eager to see the new Cruiser when it’s finally revealed.
