Nissan’s greatest hits converge in 90th anniversary commercial

Ninety years ago today Nissan Motor Co. was founded. It’s a momentous occasion for one of Japanese most prolific and beloved carmakers, and to commemorate the occasion Nissan has released a commercial gathering together all of their “greatest hits” over the decades. There’s a little something for everyone, from kei vans to luxury cars.

The collection is an interesting selection of cars that have been hits in the Japanese market. The portfolio of enthusiast cars is truly impressive. Of course the Fairlady Z is represented by the original S30 and also the newest RZ34, and the Skyline GT-R lineage is represented by the Hakosuka, R32, and R35. But in between are cars like the B10 Sunny, K11 March, P10 Primera, S13 Silvia, A31 Cefiro, and so on.

Nissan has another ad that’s a bit more enthusiast oriented. This one shows some of their motorsports successes, including the Sakura-go and Fuji-go’s completion of the Mobilgas Trial, the Calsonic R32 Skyline GT-R’s dominance of the Japan Touring Car Championship, and development testing of the S30 Fairlady Z. There’s nostalgic footage of the San’ai Dream Center and the Nissan Ginza Gallery, and the dad at 0:52 is our very own Brandon Kelley.

Sure, there are some key models and moments missing, but this is a cumulative 90 seconds of footage. Nissan has far too many icons to fit into such a short span. Happy 90th anniversary, and here’s to 90 more.
