VIDEO: Japan’s car secrets, revealed!

Car Bros JDM Car Culture Secrets

The internet has no shortage of videos from Japan with the following premise: “Hey you poor, clueless American dreaming of Skylines and girls that look like anime characters, let us reveal to you all the JDM car secrets because, as a result of our superior engine swapping and/or drifting skillz, we have been accepted into this mysterious, centuries-old clan of car ninjas like Tom Cruise in The Last Samurai. Also, we bought a ticket to Narita on Orbitz. #JDMlyfe #BigInJapan.”

However, there is only one video — just one! — that cuts through all the BS and gives you the true scoop. Check out the Car Bros’ penetrating exposé into the real JDM.

Now go forth and spread all the knowledge you’ve learned!

  1. Censport says:

Not quite Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker, but I laughed.

  2. Jon says:

Dude, did you see all those Skylines!?

  3. Seiko The Neko says:

“The Skyline, known among enthusiasts as the ‘King Kong’, can be thought of as the Honda Civic of Japan.”

    That line killed me.

    • John M says:

I’m sure I’ll be using some of these lines and that one stood out for me, too. Some of the images like the arrow pointing at Guam or the Civic on the battlefield also got me.

This video has a Barryesque feel to it. Though not a car book, if this is your speed and you are into all things Japanese, you might check out “Dave Barry Does Japan.”

    • Ben Hsu says:

I think you mean the Kenmeri on the battlefield.

  4. Wayne Thomas says:

Actually, you’ll find people living in 24 hour internet cafes. And as for Tokyo, from time to time Daikoku Futo is a great place, but the rest of it city SUCKS! If you haven’t driven it…you just cannot know how much Tokyo SUCKS!

    • Censport says:

I’ve driven in Tokyo. It’s better than driving in Nashville, which itself is turning into another Atlanta.

    • Kuroneko says:

That does it! I am moving then. Who knew it SUCKS? My daily commute past the Palace, my weekend runs to Okutama, my late night blasts to Tatsumi It all SUCKS! DAMN!

LA or NY, here I come… How much are GM Arcadia these days?

  5. Nathan says:

The song played in the background is Chinese in origin, played by the Ming Flute Ensemble. I can’t recall the name of the tune at the moment, but have heard it many times during my kung fu classes. This was subtle, and perhaps intentional(?). I wonder if any one else noticed this.

  6. Jim Daniels says:

I though I noticed the tune also it’s Kenny G, I think he was raised in Japan and first learned the melodies of the Ninja.

  7. Sedanlover says:

This is such a classic piss take. Hilarious. But I wonder how many people will see this vid and think true of it?

  8. EddieBlazer says:

I stopped watching when it got to the part of tha stroller full of Persian cats…very tongue-in-cheek, very Onion-esque
