TRA Kyoto’s new Boss kit turns FDs into RX-3s

TRA Kyoto Boss Mazda FD3S RX3 kit

One of the most photographed things at last year’s SEMA Show was the TRA Kyoto Boss kit that grafted a Datsun Sunny-esque nose onto an S14 Silvia. Now, its makers have applied the same principle to a Mazda, namely, melding a stylized Savanna RX-3 nose onto the body of an FD3S RX-7. The Mazda Boss kit is just a rendering for now, but given the company’s prolific ability to create outrageous kits, you know the real deal is coming any day now. What do JNC readers think, is it rotary radness or time to hide your FDs?

Love it! You know that JNC’s are making an impact of the automotive world when this stuff is happening.

Also, gets us closer to the Toyota version (first Nissan/Datsun & now Mazda). What will it be, though? Corolla. Corona. Maybe a baller Century for the sedan lovers… just a thought.

  2. Tim says:

I wonder if it’s possible to get any of these kits without the ridiculous wide fenders?

  3. Jim Simspson says:

Love the throw back look, on the modern body, very tastefully done.

  4. Dankan says:

So, take the best looking Japanese car of all-time, and ruin it’s glorious front end with the blunt nose off an RX-3? I like RX-3s, but for their own merits. I don’t see any virtue in taking literal perfection and ruining it with stance nation, wide-bodied idiocy.

No sir, I don’t like it.

I couldn’t agree more. The FD is one of the best looking cars of all time from anywhere. Although it’s a dream of mine, I may never be able to afford one. But, I’d like to think that if I could there’d be some out there worth buying. Smh. No.

  5. Chad says:

I agree Tim, I’d like to see any of the Boss kits without fender flares.

  6. Troggie42 says:

Absolutely ugly. I really despise all these rocket bunny styles of kits on FDs. Some cars can pull them off, like the S Chassis cars, but on the FD, the Evangelion angular styling just does NOT mesh well with the smooth curves and lines of the FD. I wish they’d stop doing this crap.
