Toyota entered the Tokyo Outdoor Show over the weekend with a pair of classic Land Cruisers. The trucks, an FJ40 and FJ60, hailed from the Toyota Automobile Museum’s collection and have undergone impeccable restorations. They were on site to promote Toyota’s GR Heritage Parts program, which recently expanded to include J60, J70, and J80 Land Cruisers.
The GR Heritage Parts program announced the inclusion of reproduction Land Cruiser parts in 2022, starting with the J40. Toyota hinted that subsequent generations of Land Cruiser would be added.
Parts like axle shafts, brake master cylinders, starters, and more have been remade and are now available in limited supply. As expected, the J60 gets the second longest list of parts after the J40, followed by the J70 and J80. New parts are added to the list regularly, with the elusive fusible links for J60 through J80 coming this fall.
The GR Heritage Parts program flows through a different pipeline than the standard inventory supply to support repairs for late-model cars. Instead, it’s positioned as a promotion of “cultural inheritance” that underscores Toyota’s goal of creating cars that will be cherished.
The parts are available via Toyota dealers in Japan, but will also make their way to other countries where the Land Cruiser is popular. Those include the North America, Australia, and the Middle East.
There’s an FJ60 sitting in my former neighbor’s back yard rusting away. It’s beyond my ability/wallet to save I think, plus he goes back & forth on his willingness to sell and at what price.
Doesn’t stop me from dreaming.
Side note: those are some skinny little tires. Love it.
