There’s some great news coming down the pike for Toyotaku. Toyota will soon make parts again for the A70 and A80 Supra. The news was revealed by none other than Shigeki Tomoyama, head of Gazoo Racing and A80 owner, at the Japanese launch of the new Supra on May 17.
Tomoyama announced the GR Heritage Parts Project standing before several generations of Supra, including the 2020 model and his own A80. Upon hearing the news, a hearty round of applause and cheers rose from the crowd of Supra owners gathered for the event at Toyota’s Megaweb showroom in Odaiba.
“We can not answer about specific parts at this time, but we will make every effort to meet the expectations of owners,” Tomoyama said.
He then commented on the once-in-a-century change that the auto industry is undergoing. “All horses that were once a means of transportation have been replaced by cars, but racehorses remain. There are people all over the world who love horses,” Tomoyama remarked. “The human desire to move freely, fast, and beautifully according to one’s will is universal… We have to pass on this DNA to the next generation. The challenge of Toyota Gazoo Racing is to make cars thoroughly interesting in the next 100 years.”
With the launch of the GR Heritage Parts Project, Toyota at last joins Nissan, Mazda, and Honda as Japanese carmakers with heritage parts programs. Nissan announced parts for the R32 Skyline GT-R and recently expanded the program to R33 and R34 models. Honda has long offered an NSX program but is now making parts for the Beat as well. Meanwhile, Mazda launched its NA Roadster/Miata program and is the only one that has said parts will be coming to the US.
Tomoyama-san clearly has a personal stake in creating a supply of parts for older Supras. His own car is a white 1997 A80 with TRD aero package and approximately 600 horsepower (it can be seen in the background of the photos above). “The new Supra is a great car,” he responded when asked about the A90, “But I don’t intend to let go of this 80 Supra in my lifetime.”
So stoked for A70 parts going back into production! I wish I didn’t give up on my dreams of a period correct A70 project, but finding things like interior pieces was such a pain that I had to give up.Time to make some friends in Japan to handle the shipping until Toyota USA decides to bring the program here to the States.

Right after I spent 2 years chasing down almost 1000$ of rare parts (used) for my A70. I am still excited. This gives me and other owners of solid but weathered cars a chance to look like new again.

I hope they decide there is enough need for making parts for the earlier MK1 and MK2 models. I am the original owner of my 86 MK2 with just over 119k easy miles. But parts do wear out and the dealers can no longer get parts. Would be nice to have a source.

In the US the A40 is the original Supra, in Japan, the A70 is.
My guess is they’re taking a Japan-centric view on focusing on what they consider Supras first, and if we’re lucky it will trickle down to what they called the Celica XX.

Looking for carpeting for the rear hatch area for my 93 supra.
This is Amazing! I hope that as much parts for the A70 will be available. Especially Window moulding and Body Side Trim. These are impossible to find in good condition. It’s great to see that the Supra is finally getting it long over due reproduction parts will bring more of them back to their Former Glory. – A Proud 1987 Toyota Supra owner.
I also need some window molding for my 1989 Supra Turbo. It is starting to peel. Luckily, I redid the weather stripping on the targa top about 10 years ago. I would think that there would be pretty good demand for MKIII parts in the USA. Hope parts are available again soon for my 30 year old Supra.

You were wondering where the license plate would go on the Supra? Look at the yellow one and there’s your answer. Japanese cars have to have front plate (like California) so there you have it.

As an A70 owner, we really need the uncommon wear items covered. Glass, trim, weatherstripping(I bought one of the last sets of Targa seals in the US), interior trim, and maybe even some of the rarer factory upgrade parts(Canadian-spec seat heater switches, anyone?) New igniters would be a Godsend as well.
Excellent news I have a 1988 mrk3 straight 6 2.0l twin turbo areo top manual with only 80,000 miles been looking for parts so this will be a big help hope they do whole boot floors as the mrk 3 supras are common for rotten boot floor
My ’88 turbo has been down for years. Currently waiting for two washers which are NLS to be located. I will believe it when I experience it. Good luck with that though 🙂
Whaaaaatttttt. This Feel like this was a MUCH better news then having to make the new Supra. Not by any means, i’m saying that I’m not happy to see the new Supra. This is going to be amazing. The monopoly of aftermarket VERY expensive parts will END. Small details parts are great BUT please make the 2jz Motor & v160 for SUREEEEEEEEE, MUSTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT. Was thinking of selling my 1994 Turbo Supra BUT NO MOREEEEEEE.
This is why I love Toyota. Would love to finish completing the rest of what my 86.5 supra needs. Window trims, cup holder tray, the little box thing in the middle, the molding trims since mine look ugly, and my driver side door panel could be replaced (left hand drive) and if they do all the colors. Mine is blue.

Really wished MAZDA would get on this bandwagon in a bigger way with rotary parts.
Hopefully Toyota will do this for the MR2 at some point in the future, but I won’t hold my breath.
This is really cool and I hope it sets a precedent for other models but I promise you there are way more AE86 owners than A70 owners crying out for certain parts if the ridiculous second hand prices are anything to go by!

Meanwhile they have left their rally winning, legendary Celicas to rust in junkyards. Everyone loves the Supra, I do too, but not as much as I love my ST 185’s. Those were the cars that put Toyota on the map as a serious rally champion.
For my beloved A70 I’d love to find these freshly made things:
Master window control switch
Engine Wiring harness
Instrument Cluster circuit panel (traces are slowly rotting)
Glass (always in fear of that next rock chip or failing defroster in rear)
Light and Turn signal controls. They still work amazingly well, but eventually…..
Basically Lots of little parts and trim pieces that are a major hassle to source in functioning condition. Heck, a front end replacement kit for a body shop to repair a mild fender benders would be nice. Those front end clips aren’t growing on trees anymore.
One can always (with enough $$) deal with replacing or remanufacturing the drivetrain of a car, but some of those little original bits and bobs are treacherous to find working copies of. Even simple things like Parking Brake handles and door lock solenoids I’ve found to be a chore to find.
Shy of Toyota fulfilling many fantasies by producing brand new crate 2JZ engines, even a modest number of freshly produced trim pieces will be welcome out here.

Looking for the fender decals for the 1997 Supra “15th Anniversary, Limited Edition”. I need a pair in silver. I have two of the Limited Edition decals in black, but I need silver (my car is black so it doesn’t show up).
