1973 mazda rx-3 shell

We really appreciate and enjoy all the JNC readers out there sharing their projects with us. Occasionally one goes above and beyond in bringing back a car otherwise be destined for the crusher, investing way more time and money than what the market deems worthwhile for the car. But that’s the sign of true J-tin love! So if you haven’t already seen Gypsy’s 1973 Mazda RX-3 project, take a look. We can all learn a thing or two from him about both dedication and metalworking. We can’t wait to see the finished product!

I really wish I had a garage right now. (Space for four cars maybe would be good).

Good for piece of mind knowing there isnt a single bit of rust hiding anywhere!

any plans for the final look?

Thanks for the comments, the car will be about 90% factory original. The 10% that isnt original is just to make it a little more enjoyable although, every part going on the car would have been available from a Mazda catalogue in the 1970’s so Im keeping all modifications period.

It’ll have an entirely original restored interior, the exterior will be coated in the same Aurora White colour that it left the factory with in 73. The exterior will also be entirely original except for lowering it a little to improve its stance and handling. It’ll also be sitting on original set of restored steel wheels.

The car will be powered by a mildly ported 10a rotary fitted with a 5 speed gearbox (wasnt available in Australia)… yet to decide if I’ll fit a Mazdaspeed LSD.

The idea is to have a nice reliable cruiser for those sunny weekends without having the headaches of highly modified car (been there done that !) + I think J-Tin looks best when its close to original πŸ™‚

Christ dude, amazing dedication! I agree with your idea. Mod monsters are a headache, let alone when they are done on a 37yr old car. heh
