QotW: What’s your new year’s resolution for 2026?

It’s that time of year again. As one journey through the calendar ends and another begins, we are confronted with the unrelenting march of time. What will you accomplish in the next 365 days? Personally, I am finally going to build my dream garage, something I’ve been waiting decades for. My wife and I found our forever home a while back, and it’s time to create a space that will hold my cars and all the parts and automobilia that accumulate as a result. I’ll write periodic updates and solicit ideas. Sometimes the mere act of putting a goal in writing will help shepherd it along.

What’s your new year’s resolution for 2026?

The most entertaining comment by next week will receive a prize. Scroll down to see the winner of last week’s QotW, “What will you gift your car next?“.

We absolutely love the fact that our readers are so dedicated to their cars. Several had wheels at the top of their lists. All we can say is that Sedanlover and TheJWT s S130 Toyota Crowns are very lucky cars indeed.

Meanwhile, Bryan Kitsune‘s ST165 Celica will find coilovers under the tree, Ian G.‘s Miata will find some stocking stuffers for the interior, and Lavender Null will use acres of wrapping paper for a body kit and tires.

Sadly, sometimes the holidays can be tough times as well. Random Rascal‘s ride must forgo a gift due to economic concerns, but as StreetSpirit and Franxou have said, you can also give a car some love, attention and time, all of which are free.

For the first time in QotW history, we couldn’t decide on a clear winner, so this week we have two. We love Paul Markie‘s laundry list of presents for his perfectly named Datsun 280Z, and the fact that he’ll complete the project with father-son time warmed our hearts this winter. Equally ambitious was Dutch 1960, who is scrambling to restore an IMSA GTU RX-7 for a big event next summer. We bid both of you ganbatte!

Omedetou, your comment has earned you a set of decals from the JNC Shop!

  1. Same as last year, 2560 x 1440!

my new years resolution is to jumpstart the next gen of JNC enthousiasts!
If all goes well i’ll be becoming a first time dad in 2026 and well…nevermind restyling the nursery for the fourth time around or babyproofing my precariously glass filled house.

i’m working on a pedal car version of the Daihatsu P3 and Hino Samurai!
with the help of a buddy with a 3d scanner i scanned my model cars, then used the raw scan as a template to make 3d models which i altered to pedal car/powerwheels type dimensions.
next up is 3d printing the bodies and making the first two JNC pedal cars.
sure, the kaido racer soarer or skyline will be the next lesson but i gotta start with the classics.

P.S. my wife already vetoed Cedric but if it’s a girl Gloria is still on the table!

Congrats! I got my son a Subaru WRC foot-powered ride-on car when he was born because it was the only cool car available. Most sold in the US were fantasy cars or something stupid like a Hummer. To this day he still loves Subarus and wants a 22B.

Ideally, finish rebuilding this B20Z2 so I can put this ’00 CRV back together and sell it finally.

  4. Ian G. says:

To be a better person, a better Volleyball official and to quit slacking and going on the internet so much while at work (present situation).

Considering that 2025 was a year of rebuilding for me personally, getting my 1997 Isuzu LUV in top condition is always a New Year’s resolution.

Adding to that, this year I’m finally able to get my 1988 Honda VT 250 Spada back on the road (15 years after buying it unusable and almost completing its restoration), and I’m doing maintenance on my 2013 Beta Motard 250 (plus some upgrades and additions these days).

That leaves me with 2026 to get my 1997 Zanella 50cc running again. I know it’s not exactly a Japanese bike, but it hasn’t been started in about 10 years and has great sentimental value.
I think we’re all driven by that special something for the vehicles we own; it transcends their monetary value, it’s passion that motivates us. I hope that in 2026 I can complete this somewhat neglected task and keep all my vehicles in top condition! Sometimes time and distance (some are 500 km/310 mi from where I live for work) work against me, in addition to modern fuels. Happy 2026 to all!

Drive my old Toyota Van more. Since I have to move some cars around to get it out of the garage I don’t cruise nearly as much as I should.

Second on my list would be to buy another “Made in the 80s, loved by the ladies” t shirt from the JNC shop. But I need an assist for some larger sizes to be available….I promise to buy a few 🙂
