QotW: What JNC would you pick if you had to charge through a snowy mountain?

The Toyota Celica GT-Four may have nabbed the starring role in Take Me Out to the Snowland, though the filmmakers originally wanted to cast a Mitsubishi. The Celica proved capable, but Japan has a plethora of AWD and 4WD machines that can take on inclement conditions, from kei cars to Land Cruisers.

What JNC would you pick if you had to charge through a snowy mountain?

The most entertaining comment by next Monday will receive a prize. Scroll down to see the winner of last week’s QotW, “What should the Emperor of Japan have in his garage?

When you’re royalty, you naturally expect either the absolute best, or something completely ludicrous — at least that’s what we learned from the answers of the week. In the first category, there were dignified suggestions like エーイダン‘s Prince Skyline or Ian‘s sports car garage consisting of a 2000GT, NSX, and Supra. In the second category were Steven‘s shifter kart idea to get the public stoked about driving, and Yuri‘s Initial D Mitsubishi Evo motorcade. As much as we’d like to see any of these scenarios, the winner last week was daniel, would place a phone call to Mr Toyoda himself.

you are the emperor … and you have the number of mr. toyoda … mmm

How about asking your Toyota Century convertible to have a V12? just for you, with the GRMN treatment?

after all, only the emperor can give himself such tastes, not lose his dignity and move like a real boss for Japan.

anyone with money can buy any car, but only for you mr. Toyoda can make you something so special.

Omedetou, your comment has earned you a set of decals from the JNC Shop!

Does it have to be AWD?

I used to own a couple of S12s and I always loved the idea of a rally S12 (There were some) and I think an FJ20ETor VG30ET powered S12 hatch with snow tires whipping down a snowy mountain would be a terrifying rush with a lot of full-lock countersteering.

Suzuki Justy hardened & on steroids. Wouldn’t qualify as nostalgic but best rentals in Iceland’s back roads are Suzuki Jimny’s & Swifts on Winters with studs.

Mazda 323 GTX…for the winter!! A close friend had one when they were easily found on the used car market and it was a blast.

See the first picture of the post? That’s my answer

  5. Styles says:

Well there’s only one answer here. It’s got racing pedigree, it’s got a 276hp V6, it’s 2wd, AWD or 4WD, whichever the situation demands, it’s a 2-door, and it won’t worry at all if you’re completely off the road. It is, of course, the one and only Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution!

  6. Daniel says:

Thanks for the prize guys, I sent you an email to an address that I had scheduled a few years ago.

Regarding this week’s question, Subaru Justy 4wd (did the same name exist for Suzuki ???) was an option, but my heart dictates to me

    DAIHATSU MIRA L55 4WD

small, light, easy to park and with good capacities (and super fun!!!) with a Indestructible 2 cylinder engine.

    • Negishi no Keibajo says:

Oops, you’re right!?! I still say Justy. Mitsubishi is still in my bad graces for leaving the Dakar.

  7. エーイダン says:

Obviously, a Toyota AE86! And re-enact the snow scene from Initial D Third Stage where Takumi is belting up the mountain in heavy snow to save Natsuki from her ex-boyfriend.

  8. Banpei says:

It may sound strange, but the a small 4WD kei truck (like the Suzuki Carry) sounds like the best weapon of attack for a snowy mountain. You would have a nice high driving position like you would have on a proper 4×4, a short (enough) wheelbase to keep the powerslides within your own driving lane and I wouldn’t care if I end up with a few dents here and there in the bodywork of a super cheap ubiquitous truck!

I’d have to go with a 2004 forester STI. It’s an AWD wagon with an STI engine putting out 265 horsepower, what’s not to love?

  10. Santa Claus says:

When the ol’ sleigh breaks down, or when the reindeer are too hungry to fly I know which vehicle I can count on in order to get me through the harsh winters up here in the North Pole. When I need to haul my elf brothers and sisters and reindeer food around and get back to my workshop safely I know I can always depend on my 1985 Toyota Tercel 4WD WAGON. That’s why I’ve designated it the official car of Santa Claus. So if you’re asking which car I would pick to charge through a snowy mountain, there’s really only one clear choice. MY Car, the 1985 Toyota Tercel 4WD WAGON. Ho Ho Ho!
