NEWS: Petition to keep Toyota USA Museum in California

ToyotaMuseum

Toyota USA is moving to Plano, Texas. The museum is likely going along with it. The Toyota Owners and Restorers Club, or TORC (the same guys that put on Toyotafest), have started a petition to keep the 150-car collection of classic, modern and race cars within the state of California. If you are interested in keeping this vital part of California’s car culture alive, please click here to sign.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!! The worst things happen when a car company moves it’s historic collection to another state .. (Ask NISSAN N.A.)

  2. Negishi no Keibajo says:

If their intent is to reach more people with the placement of their product, California would serve Toyota better. I hope they keep it in California.

I was a regular visitor to the Nissan Showroom in downtown Tokyo. When they moved it to Yokohama, it slid off the map because I don’t have enough time to get there and back. When they moved the railroad museum out of Tokyo, it basically disappeared for me. I understand the allure of making these things a destination (for the locale*) but in reality, lot of times, it’s just plain inaccessible. *Unfortunately, it may have been part of a tax “incentive” program.

but… if makes it so much easier for me to go and see it if it comes to Texas! TBH though, I can understand your desire to keep it in Cali, and there are more classic japanese cars there then there ever will be in texas. Ill sign; Im sure i will get a chance to see it some day.

  4. Yoda says:

In the Northeast here, but SoCal is much more of a tourist destination than DFW.

  5. donnie baker says:

California’s car culture is on its last legs, its a bygone era. And the scum responsible for its demise are the same ones who drove Toyota Corp out of California in the first place. Frankly I’m surprised they haven’t already seized and crushed the entire collection like they did all those Skylines. How can such a symbol of environmentally-unconscious global capitalism be allowed to influence the young and helpless minds of California’s children? Having any car museum in California, except for one showcasing hybrid projects by corrupt oligarchs (Fisker,Tesla), would be like having an alcohol museum in the middle east. Sure, it was popular there at one time, but that was long ago, and now its an actively hostile environment.

The collection should follow the company. Why should somebody who is driven to other pastures by the inhospitablity of a place leave behind their most prized artifacts for the very people who drove them out to enjoy? F them.

Well said. California is killing the hobby car.

    • Anti-Pablum says:

I’ve researched this subject more than most people. Having said that only one thing you said is true and that’s “the collection should follow the company.”
The rest is just parroted drivel being thrown around by Gov. Perry or the sensationalist media and lapped up by the dull-minded.

If you are indeed a JNC’r, can you at least put a little more effort into your beliefs and (who knows?) perhaps do your own research?
FWIW, only management, sales, & financing are leaving but almost 2500 Toyota employees will remain here (and happier than those who have to move–no doubt).

      • pstar says:

Yeah, because the State of California DIDN’T seize and crush a bunch of “illegal” Skylines. That’s just a lie Rick Perry tells. Oh wait. You are a posterchild California merchant of pablum. Your entire mindset is about pablum, wherein you supposedly service “the environment” and “the children”.

But really, it’s hilarious that you think Rick Perry or “sensationalist media” has all these opinions on old cars and car culture and I’m just lapping it up. And then you claim I’M not a jnc’er?? I’ve been reading and posting here for years, and you signed up just to insult me with boring propaganda. LOL

      • Randy says:

Okay, so from your vantage point, why DID Toyota move management, sales, & financing from CA to TX?

Not putting an opinion out here; actually curious.

  7. Toepfer says:

Bring it to Texas. Makes it easier for the rest of us to see it.

  8. Aaron says:

Petition to carry on…. Sign me up.

    Sincerely,

    Aaron from Texas
