Finally, the FD Mazda RX-7 has joined Gran Turismo 7. With the March 2026 update, the racing sim finally gets the early version of the FD that most closely resembles what we got in the US. It only took four years give or take a week from when GT7 debuted on March 4, 2022.
The new playable car is the ɛ̃fini RX-7 Type R hailing from the FD’s debut year in Japan, 1991. Developed as the lightweight, performance-oriented variant, it featured a stiffer suspension, shorter gearing, upgraded brakes, enhanced cooling, and additional bracing, just to name a few. Previously, the only FD in the game was the swan song Spirit R, sold in 2002 in Japan long after the RX-7 had been killed off in the US market.
We’ve always loved the Gran Turismo series for having multiple versions of the same car, and that’s something we would love to see more of in GT7. There are so many more variants of the FD, let alone other makes and models, that have yet to be included (or may never be). But at least we have the bookend versions of the long-running FD lifespan.
Two other cars will join the fray, a 2021 Renault Captur S Edition TCe 140 and a modified 1969 Chevy Camaro. Additionally, four new World Circuit events are added as well.
