Kyosho is coming out with an all-new RC crawler in the shape of an FJ60 Toyota Land Cruiser. It’s an all-new platform and it looks absolutely stunning. We’re big fans of Kyosho’s high-quality RC kits, but the 1/10-scale crawler isn’t something Kyosho has done before. It’s something we’re keen to try.
I prefer RC crawlers over typical RC cars because they’re slower and teach traction and finesse, and are easier for a 6-year-old to control. Regular RC cars are really fast and result in repeated smashing into walls and furniture. They need a wide open space to truly run, which makes spontaneous play somewhat difficult if you don’t have a large yard. Last year I got my son a Kyosho Mini-Z 4WD with a first-gen Toyota 4Runner body. It’s great for tooling around the house and climbing over couch cushions and mounds of Legos, but it has its limits.
Perhaps it’s time to graduate to the Kyosho KC10, an all-new platform introduced with the FJ60 body. Unlike most Kyosho 1/10 kits, it snaps onto the chassis without clips that protrude through the lexan body. It rides on a steel ladder frame chassis with a hard plastic underpan.
The suspension is similar to that of the Mini-Z, just bigger. Metal pillow ball mounts abound, connecting to the chassis with tough-looking rod ends. It has metal lockers and helical cut gears for the diffs. You can get an optional shift unit to select high or low gear on the fly, or a locker for the rear wheels. There’s also optional LEDs to light up the head and taillights.
This will in all likelihood be the next RC car I build with my son. And the fact that we have a real FJ60 to match is pretty cool, I think. The set isn’t out yet, but it should be available for preorder at $450 and will arrive this spring.

I think seeing wild suspension articulation is so cool, and seeing it even more extreme on these R/C models is hot!
Boom Racing already sells wonderful Land Cruisers and Land Rovers.
The price is high, but the quality is high too.
