KIDNEY, ANYONE? Nissan Fairlady Z432 up for auction

1970 Nissan Fairlady Z432 RM 01

A 1970 Nissan Fairlady Z432 is going up for bidding at the RM Amelia Island auctions next month. JNCers know the drill: its namesake 4 valves per cylinder, 3 carbs, and 2 cams stems from the S20 straight six sourced from the Skyline GT-R of the same era. It cost double the amount of a standard Fairlady Z when new, is exceedingly rare, and was never exported for sale.

As all Z432s are, it is stamped with a PS30 serial number (P for Prince, the luxury automaker with which Nissan merged and from which the S20 motor was derived) on the firewall.

The lot was just posted on the RM website, so a catalog description is not available yet. From photos, it looks to be a very clean example with a light refresh done on the centerpiece engine.

The interior appears to be well preserved, with some glazing on hard plastics that occur over time and exposure to the elements. The odometer reads 10,277 km (just over 6,300 miles).

Only the very wealthiest Japanese could afford one at the time, so most Z432s were either raced hard or well cared for. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill Datsun 240Z.

With the traditional Euro-focused car collecting world turning their eyes to Japan, it is no surprise that a Z432 would cross the block at a major auction house at some point. The heat generated by Monterey last year is prompting speculators to try their hands at blue chip models. The hakosuka GT-R hardtop and sedanCosmo Sport and multiple 2000GTs have had their turns. Now the waters are being tested with a Z432. The auction takes place March 14.

if you want a good destiny for this car, jay leno’s owner type or some stupid rich guy as an “investment”?

Sad thing is, when a classic car reaches this level
it is no longer driven in the way they were intended.

    • Ryan says:

I’m sorry but – have you never seen the Goodwood Festival of Speed?

I’m with you on the Pebble Beach type cars, but the Z432 won’t ever be in that league (the 432-R however…. )

Goodwood is cool but only represents a very small percentage
driven on a special occasion, and most are the top level classics.

The Z432 is not Pebble Beach league but still enters
into the rare and collectable league, which means it’s
        locked up and pampered.
