[Old man voice] Back in my day when music videos wanted to create a cool vibe producers brought in muscle cars. Candy colors and chrome are what set pop stars apart from the common traffic cars and offered an air of cool. These days it’s Bubble Era JDM machines , as seen in the new video from Jenevieve and Jihyo for the song “Hvnly”.
I’m such an unc that I’d never heard of either of these singers until people started forwarding me this video yesterday. While the music isn’t my cup of tea, the cars certainly are. The video features multiple A80 Supras, R32 Skylines, an S15 Silvia, a hardtopped NA Miata, and a Yamaha. The video looks like it was shot in Chicago, at a location with a 1960s drive-in feel. We are now basically where the boomers were when these cars were new, and it’s cool to see these cars some love.
this is pretty perfect music for night drives, Jenevieve even has a song that samples Anri’s Last summer whisper. here’s to hoping the next album features some genuine kaido racers!
