Channel your inner Bunta with an official ‘Initial D’ Zippo lighter

An official Initial D-themed Zippo has been released in Japan. The classic cigarette lighter depicts scenes from one of the manga’s most famous battles — between Takumi Fujiwara’s Toyota AE86 against the Todo School’s EK9 Honda Civic Type R — is laser-etched on both sides. The item is extremely limited, with only 150 units planned, and each one will be engraved with a serial number showing its sequence in production.

The lighter itself has a gunmetal gray body, and the laser etching allows for fine lines that can’t be printed. There have been many automotive themed Zippo lighters, but few have artwork that spans the entire height and width of the surface on both sides.

It’s the infamous scene in which Takumi executes his famous “blind attack” by turning off his AE86’s headlights on a night battle against the EK9. Due to the darkness on the touge his opponent can’t locate the AE86, and Takumi pops up the lights when he’s already got the inside line and it’s too late for the Civic.

Each one will cost ¥16,500 (approximately $115 USD) and are only sold in Japan via Camshop, the same company that brought us the R34 tissue holder. Unfortunately, most parcel services refuse to ship lighters overseas. It’s a must-have for the Initial D completist, raising the question, would Bunta use one to light his cigarettes?
