Last week a meet for Honda S660 owners broke a Guinness world record. On November 15, 832 of the mid-engined kei cars gathered at Suzuka Circuit in Mie Prefecture and filed down the track. A Guinness adjudicator was on site to certify the procession as the “largest parade of Honda cars”.
The event was held by the S660 owners’ club of Chubu, Japan’s central region. The group wanted to do something special to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the S660’s release in 2015. Honda employees involved in the S660’s development and production attended and interacted with fans.
The S660 was a mid-engined sports car named after the S2000 and S500/S600/S800 but inspired more so by the 1991 Beat. Its turbo three-cylinder made just 63 horsepower in accordance with kei car standards, yet its output belied an extremely nimble and fun-to-drive sports car. The previous Guinness world record for “largest parade of Honda cars” was when 569 Honda Beats gathered at another Honda-owned circuit, Twin Ring Motegi, on May 9, 2010.
