Honda Heritage Works reproduction parts program to launch in the US this summer

Acura has announced that reproduction NSX parts will be available to order stateside starting this summer. The parts are part of a greater Honda Heritage Works program that started in Japan last year. The NSX parts will be offered exclusively through Acura dealerships nationwide.

“In this 40th anniversary year of the Acura brand, the launch of Honda Heritage Parts is especially meaningful, giving Acura enthusiasts the support they need to continue enjoying their first-generation Acura NSX,” said Steven Bailey, vice president of Honda and Acura Parts, Service and Technical Division. “At its core, the new Honda Heritage Parts program honors our shared passion for these iconic vehicles and helps ensure they can be enjoyed by future generations.”

There are two types of parts available through the program. Genuine Honda Reproduction Parts will be made using the same materials and production methods as the original parts. By contrast, Honda Compatible Parts are newly developed parts designed to function in the exact same way as the parts they will replace. An ABS module, for example, would fall into the latter category.

Both are considered factory and, according to Honda, “made possible by the establishment of a new collaborative framework with parts suppliers, technological advancements, and adoption of new materials and manufacturing methods.”

Additionally, there’s an additional Honda Restoration Service, which replaces the NSX Refresh Plan that has been in operation in Japan since 1993. The Basic plan removes the engine and rebuilds it, refreshes the suspension, and replaces aged items around doors and other openings. The Total Restoration plan covers everything in the Basic Plan, plus strips the car down to a body-in-white, repaint the car, reupholster the seats, and make the dashboard, door panels, and controls as good as new.

As for other Honda and Acura models, the company says they are “being evaluated.” The fact that the parts are being offered through Acura dealers is interesting. We’d wager that the Integra Type R might be a good next candidate. Exactly which parts and how much they will cost will be disclosed as the launch date nears.

If only they’d extend this to their less popular cars… I’d pay 5 figures to get my 1988 Integra back to its original condition.

Given today’s news on Honda profits & cuts, I am wondering if it will wind up on the chopping block.
