Honda launches Heritage Works program for parts and restoration

Honda heads, rejoice! Honda has announced a new reproduction parts program for their sports cars. And yes, the newly christened Honda Heritage Works is going global and will include Acuras as well. With an estimated 70 percent of first-gen Japan-market NSXes still registered there, it’s natural for Honda to start with its flagship. However, it will expand to other models in the future.

Honda Heritage Works will consist of two branches. On one side is the Honda Heritage Parts program, which will reproduce two types of parts. Genuine Honda Heritage Reproduction Parts will be manufactured with exactly the same materials and production methods as when the NSX was new. By contrast, Genuine Honda Heritage Compatible Parts use new materials and production methods to create a part that will accomplish exactly what the original part did, but won’t be an exact replica.

Both are technically factory and will function like the parts they replace. One of the Heritage Works engineers, Toshiya Kanda, explained that, for example, the electric motor for the ABS unit may not be exactly the same as the 90s original, but will function the same. The objective is to keep as many NSXes as they can roadworthy.

Honda will offer Heritage Parts globally, but the list of available parts isn’t out yet. They will be offered through standard Honda parts channels, which in the US likely means dealership parts counters. For now, here is the current list of reproduction and compatible parts in Japanese. More will be added to the lists as they become available.

The other side of Honda Heritage Works Honda Restoration Service, which replaces the NSX Refresh Plan that has been in operation in Japan since 1993. As part of the rebranding, the Refresh Center in Takanezawa, Tochigi Prefecture, where the original NSX was built, will be renamed Honda Heritage Works Takanezawa.

The restoration service is limited to Japan and will offer two tiers. The Basic plan removes the engine for maintenance and replacement of worn parts, installs new suspension bits, and replaces age-worn parts around doors and other openings. The Total Restoration plan will do all of the above, plus strip the car down to the “body-in-white” for repainting and reupholster the seats, dashboard, door panels, and controls.

While the NSX Refresh Plan focused on returning the cars to factory-shipped condition, the goals of the new service are slightly different. The objective now is to keep the cars running without losing functionality. For example, Kanda explained, if there was any problem with, say, the power seat motor, under the NSX Refresh Plan Honda would have replaced the entire seat assembly. Now, if they can just replace the brushes inside the faulty motor they will do that, even if the result isn’t factory fresh condition.

Honda will begin taking applications for the restoration service in early January, 2026 for owners in Japan. A similar service has not been announced for the rest of the world, likely to maintain quality standards. Honda Heritage Works officially kicks off in April 2026, and parts lists and prices will be announced as that time approaches.

Good for Honda. I know I bash my former brand a lot here, but it’s good to see that the enthusiast spark is still alive somewhere within the company.
