Building on the NSX’s 30th anniversary, Honda has released a message from the original car’s chief engineer, Shigeru Uehara. It’s all in Japanese, naturally, but with the help of our pal and Hot Wheels’ resident Honda-head Ryu Asada, we’ve been able to bring you a translation.
According to Ryu, Uehara says something like this:
It’s been 30 years since the NSX was born. The NSX is a car that we at Honda wanted to make, no matter what it took. The part I love most about the NSX, is that I was involved from the very beginning of the process to the very end, and that I’m able to see the many happy faces of NSX owners.
Many told me, “The NSX changed our lives.” There aren’t too many cars in this world that could do that. I’m so grateful and thankful for that.
The NSX’s all-aluminum body structure has held up pretty well, and the exterior design has aged well. I, too, have owned an NSX for 30 years, and even today my car runs strong without issues. The NSX is a car you can spend your life with.
I sincerely wish that all of you have many more wonderful days with the NSX. I’d like to thank all of you who’ve cherished our NSX for this long.
Actually, it’s we that should thank Uehara for bringing to life one of the greatest cars built by man. It truly warms our hearts to know that Uehara has personally owned an NSX since the car was new.
Thanks Asada-san!!
I’ve always dreamed of having an NSX. But I’ve always felt it would be like a Ferrari. If you have money to buy one, you have money to maintain and upgrade it.
I don’t think I could do that!
It’s really cool to hear Uehara-san has owned his NSX for 30yrs. I do feel like the ’90s Supra, it has this timeless look.
Well that’s the beautiful thing about an NSX, it’s NOT a Ferrari. Unlike with a Ferrari where the price is just the entry cost, and you’ll be bankrupted by the maintenance costs, the NSX is, in many ways, “Just another Honda” – sure, you’d want to get your work done by a dealer or a specialist to keep the resale value strong, but it’ll always be reliable and resonable in it’s maintenance demands.
I’ve never owned one, but every NSX owner I’ve seen, have always been ballers. LOL.
I feel the same way about the 90’s Supra. If I got one, I would have to maintain it to keep it nice.
Such a nice looking car.
Objectively speaking, the best sports car ever made when design, quality, fitness for purpose, performance, reliability, usability, practicality and driving experience are all taken into account. I’ve been lucky enough to drive many very special exotics from all eras, but it’s the NSX I still long to own.
Thank YOU Uehara san.
Pretty! This was an incredibly wonderful article. Thanks for supplying these details.

A fascinating discussion is worth comment. There’s no doubt that that you need to publish more about this issue, it may not be a taboo subject but generally people do not talk about such subjects. To the next! Many thanks!!
