VIDEO: An R32 Skyline GT-R is worth waiting 22 years for

“I wanted the car to look like it came out of the dealership back in the 90s and you would see it on the streets of Tokyo,” says Slide Squad’s Mark Hutchinson of his 1992 Nissan Skyline GT-R. Like many of us, Mark’s friend had shown him a Japanese car magazine, and it opened his eyes to a new world of automotive goodness. This was in 1995, and Mark had to wait 22 years to import his dream car.

“If a 19-year-old version of myself could see me now, driving this car, he would just be beside himself,” Hutchinson says in an accompanying article. We can understand why. The R32 Skyline GT-R is a magical machine.

Hagerty Insurance, has long been known for providing coverage for classic and collectible cars in the muscle and exotic car world. They’ve also been making inroads to Japanese machinery, and this Hagerty-produced video of Mark’s R32 shows how serious they are. The dream cars of the 90s are officially classics, and it is only appropriately that they be treated as such.

    I empathise with Mark 100%!! šŸ™‚

If I could go back to 1990 & tell my then 13yr old self that one day WE own one it would be brilliant.

My first exposure to the King of Monsters was Bathurst 1990. My father told me I was not his son, WE cheer for Holden (Chevy) in this family.

I told him, one day Dad, one day…………

Fast-forward to 2017, & I bought my dream. I drove it home (approx. 300kms for his former owner) with tears welled up in my eyes most of the way.

1990 Skyline GT-R in TH1 blue. The very last car I will ever own, never selling.

Although only light-tune, on high boost setting (300kw at all 4 wheels) it still scares my panties into a bunch!!

I LOVE it!!!! When you drive it you ride on the shoulder of THE King!

Sure, a lot of modern cars are faster, but Godzilla has nothing to prove.

He is myth, he is legend, he is decimator of Group A. No one will do what he did, how he did it EVER again.

Nice story. I know exactly what he’s talking about.Everytime i drive my ae86 it’s another kind of experience than say a new car. I drive new toyota’s all day and can’t wait to get behind the wheel of my hachi go!!! Not saying new cars don’t have there place…..just not in MY driveway.
