MINICARS: Subaru SVX and Sambar, Honda S2000, Nissan trucks join Matchbox lineup in 2019

The annual Matchbox convention took place last weekend in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This is where the diecast brand has traditionally revealed the new cars to appear in next year’s lineup. As it turns out, in 2019 there will be several Japanese cars added.

In case you can’t tell by the 3D-printed prototypes, Japanese cars on the list include a Nissan NV1500 (orange, top row), a Subaru Sambar kei truck (yellow, middle row) and a Subaru SVX (red, bottom row). According to Matchbox, the SVX is a tribute to ex-Matchbox-now-Hot-Wheels designer Ryu Asada, who temporarily returned to Matchbox to create this car (that’s his car in the lead photo).

More were mentioned in a slideshow presentation, including a Honda S2000 (another car owned by Ryu Asada), an XTerra with an opening hatch, and a concept truck based on the Nissan Titan called the Warrior (the Titan Surf Camp has declared their loyalty for Hot Wheels ). You can watch the full presentation below. 2019 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Matchbox.
