More Vintage Wheel Ads: Techno, Yayoi, Etc.

techno phantom 2
We posted some vintage Japanese wheel ads a while back. Here’s some more spotted on Riverside. Many have a similar theme: modified OG J-ride, night time shot, the wheel in question and a glimpse of asphalt lit dramatically. The message is clear, get out there and race, foo! This Techno Phantom-shod RX-7 just beckons.

yayoi 02yayoi 03
The notorious Yayois, or “sakuras” as we Westerners like to call them. We know this ad is old, but let’s get some lower profile tires on those babies! Click on the images to open a full-size pic.

yayoi 01yayoi 04
Here’s a butaketsu Laurel rockin’ a set of gold blossoms. Look at that face-meltingly cool Team Yayoi gear. I wonder how much that stuff is worth nowadays.

techno shadow 02
Who doesn’t love Shadows? I’d love that 5-lug version for my Crown. Interestingly, the company name is Devil Japan rather than Techno.

techno meshpasco bilbo 5
Here’s the even rarer Mesh version, along with another Pasco-Fame Bilbo ad we missed last time. Once again: S130 Fairlady Z, nighttime, ready to hit the wangan.

racing forg
It’s not a typo – forged racing wheels from RacingForg and a pair of Sunnys wearing the team livery.

suzuka carol
And last but not least, a 2+2 Fairlady Z shod with totally 80s style Suzuka Carols.

I would like to see the Techno Phantoms on GX41 Chaser.
    Cool.

  2. Cool, I’d like to try and replicate the photography in a couple of those.

That’s pretty cool. Back when 14″ rims were baller!

I’m digging the Bilbo “Simple Spokes” in four holes. It’d be nice to score a set of them.

I’m in love with that shot of the RX-7.

I wonder if naming the Suzukas ‘Carol’ was an attempt to cash in on the fame of Eikichi Yazawa’s band of the same name?

Racing Forg is not the brand, they were a model of wheel made by WEDS.

Also hope GX41 is a typo lol

    thx!!

Where, Oh, where are they now?.. the cars AND the rims.

Great vintage ads. I’ve never heard of GX41.. maybe GX51 or GX61(the earliest).

Never heard of GX51, either, pal. You guys really need to KNOW your car chassis’ before you post.

Also, if you posted GX61 is “the earliest”… WHY would you then post GX51??

      Oh, nevermind…

If it was G or an M, does not matter. Pettiness is just sad.

And we are talking about wheels here (not G’s or M’s).
