WANT! BRIDE Goes Retro with Histrix

Bride seats are one of the mainstays of the JDM tuner scene.  They come in loud, lairy colours like bright red and blue, and would be the perfect addition to something like a turbo Silvia or modern GT-R (with the matching grey and charcoal trademark Bride fabric on the door cards and rear seat of course).  However, for classics, unless you’re going for the resto-mod look, Brides are they’re a little bit too out of character for our old classics.

Until now.

Called the Histrix, Bride has just released a low-backed, hardshell motorsport seat that wouldn’t look out of place in your Hakosuka or RX-3.  The Histrix is trimmed in leather, with round vent-holes in the seatback that are very reminiscent of competition seats in the 60s and early 70s.  The shellback is “super aramid” (I think that means carbon fibre), and I’m sure that, like all Bride seats, those of us with an…um…”fuller” figure will not fit.  The Histrix retails for about US$1500 in Japan.

Wow, this is awesome. I wouldn’t mind getting some for our nonexistent rx4 project… if we had an unlimited budget!

  2. Kev says:

    …there’s an RX4 project? 🙂

  3. GEN2TWINCAM says:

    Wow, talk about opportunity cost.

1,500 USD would go a long way toward a new engine.

  4. Burabuda says:

hehe, just looks like they added a few vent buttons

  5. Oyaji Gaijin says:

That is actually a more retro styled seat, not quite a historic reproduction of the 60’s Sheal or Recaro, but it is a very good looking seat all the same.

Maybe the JNC writers could write up something about the original Japanese racing seats that this new seat is styled after.

  6. tom says:

Those are nice, would look good in my subie, but expensive, wow!

  7. Kev says:

That’s a good idea Oyaji Gaijin, who’s correct about the Bride Histrix not being a replica of an old school seat, but rather a modern seat with retro styling touches.

Back in the day, Nissan did offer Sports Option (precursor to Nismo) bucket seats, which were available as an aftermarket part, and came as standard in some special editions like the 432R Zed. They were fitted to the works racing and rally cars and I believe were also available in the USA from Datsun Competition.

Here’s a replica of that factory racing seat, and you can see the styling cues that the Bride seat has picked up from it.

This is one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a long time! Doesn’t seem to be much head protection though…=/

  9. Breezy says:

Aramid is the correct name for kevlar, as kelvar is a trade name for the 3M product. Not a huge fan of the seat though.

  10. PERTANO says:

Did you guys miss these at JCCS? There was a seat out there on display. Very nice seat, but when he told me the price I had to walk away. I dont’ think I’ve ever spent that much on one of my cars let alone a seat for one.

  11. Ben says:

Dang, I always miss stuff when I have to work our booth!

  12. Blownarrow says:

OM I would love a pair of eather of those form my Arrow!

  13. Erwin Lee says:

Does anyone on this forum actually have this Bride seat ? If so, what are your reviews ?
