VIDEO: Watch the R32 Skyline GT-R lap the Nürburgring

Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 Nurburgring Best Motoring

Nowadays, for any performance car worth their salt, a Nürburgring lap is a spec sheet staple, right there under horsepower, torque, and 0-60 time. But the Nissan Skyline GT-R was doing it before it was cool. Way before. Back in 1989, to be precise, when Best Motoring took an R32 GT-R to the Green Hell and clocked an 8:22. That’s nothing compared to the 7:08:69 of the R35 NISMO GT-R, but it was absolutely mind-blowing 27 years ago.

Given the technology of the day in respect to tires, suspension, etc. That’s a respectable time.
I’ll bet the tires and pads were both “toast” after that run.

Awesome ! Is it Gan San driving ? (He looks focused, but not going insane fast).

  3. Brignola says:

The car has Belgian Licence plates – Did Nissan Belgium ever consider importing these ? What a pity they didn’t

    • Exiv96 says:

Not just belgian plates, but also EU-compliant red reflectors and the typically belgian rear fog light ! You can see different plates in the video, because there was a whole batch of GT-Rs done like that. It was for a press event organised by Nissan themselves, back in 1989, as I remember a short test drive in belgian magazine Le Moniteur Automobile that same year, featuring one of those “Euro-spec” GT-Rs.

I wonder what happened to those cars.
