In a race that looks like a real-life Gran Turismo battle, the best of 1990s sports cars duke it out in this 1995 episode of Best Motoring. The field is a who’s who of Bubble Era machinery, including a Supra Turbo, R33 Skyline GT-R, FD3S RX-7, SW20 MR2, 993 Porsche Carrera, and not one but two NSXes, one automatic and one manual. The manual NSX even comes in the best 90s color, teal, a paint option Honda didn’t offer in the US. Who will come out on top?
In first segment, the drag race, all the cars finish within a few tenths of a second, from each other, but the manual NSX tops the rankings. Then comes the 7-way Tsukuba Circuit battle royale, with the Supra crossing the finish line first, despite starting mid-field. In the solo time attack, however, it is the FD RX-7 that clocks the best overall time of 1:06:50. Breaking it down further, the Supra also does best on the final sweeper, coming in at 9:890 while the GT-R sling through the tight first hairpin quickest with an 8:183. It was peak Japan, and we will probably never see a match like this ever again.
Its a shame they dont do cars like that anymore
Interesting that they compared the auto and manual NSX. I believe I saw this many years ago and wondered then why they would even bring in an automatic NSX.
These 90s Best Motoring Videos are always so fun.
