VIDEO: Toyota made some ads about long-time Corolla owners

Toyota Japan is continuing its celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Corolla with a series of videos about owners who have driven their Corollas for a very long time.

In the first ad, a woman who must be at least 70 years old reminisces about her first Corolla, a KE10 sedan (lead photo).

A well-dressed gentleman still owns his E70 hardtop coupe, which appears to have been kept in mint condition.

This OG would get all the props at Toyotafest in his clean AE86 Corolla Levin Coupe, lowered slightly on TOM’s Igeta wheels.

Even the front-drive Corolla Levin AE100, which we sadly never got in the US, gets some love.

This guy traded in his TE27 for an AE111 with TRD package. Cool car, but come on. The lesson here: keep your old Corolla.

    This is really cool.

Too bad we never got the Levin AE-100 and beyond. I guess it would slot in between Tercel/Paseo (remember Paseos?) and Celica, and would have been a nice addition to the line. Maybe some would call it a “Chick Car,” but c’mon – all the virtues of the Corolla, AND a two-door. Lots o’ possibilities.

Unfortunately while Honda continued churning out it’s Integral and Preludes bound for the US market, Toyota decided to pull out from the FF coupe market stateside. Which is a shame, cause AE111 is a really good looking car.

I think by the late ’90s size and feature creep meant that there’d be no appreciable gap between a Corolla coupe and a base Celica, so they dropped the former and decontented and lightened the latter at the next full redesign.

They should have used me and my 1988 Toyota corolla Gts which has 420,000 miles

You have to remember though, at the time, a TE27 was simply outclassed by an AE111.
