Speaking of rivalries, the Nissan GT-R and Mazda rotary have one that stretches back some 45 years. It was Hiroshima’s pistonless wonder that kept the Hakosuka GT-R from capturing its much sought-after 50th touring car win. While Nissan did eventually get that 50th win, Mazda’s block still left a bitter taste in proto-Godzilla’s mouth. The latest Hot Version video — yes, they are making new episodes! — reignites that struggle with a GT-R versus rotary redux in their latest trailer.
Unfortunately, it seems that even the most popular automotive show in Japan was unable to find a proper matchup with the Hako. Instead, they’ve sourced one of Hitoshi Kato’s Familia Rotary R100 coupes, an incredible vintage race replica in its own right, but not the Savanna RX-3 that so cruelly snatched victory from the Skyline GT-R’s jaws. Someone, please build a proper RX-3!
I had both a 79 and 87 Mazda RX7. Very fast ,but failed a lot of emission tests. Now I have a 21 year Miata which is not as fast, but a lot of fun

This RE-Amemiya FD vs MCR R34 is my favorite Touge Challenge video because it shows the advantage of lightweight balance vs high power.

Yes, Hot Version is an off-shoot of Best Motoring, but it has been a continuing, stand alone series for years & years (decades).
Mainly hosted by Keiichi Tsuchiya, N.O.B., & Manabu Orido. Always containg tuned cars (old, new & in-between), with appearances by legendary Japanese tuning houses (HKS, Mines, Top Secret, FEED, RE Amemiya, MCR, Scoot, Spoon etc etc).
The Touge Battles are brilliant!!!! Regular track battles in Tsukuba too.
Yes, all in Japanese only, but who cares if you can’t understand every word. You learn usual phases & get the general drift (no pun intended!).
