As regular JNC readers know, 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the Nissan GT-R and the Nissan Fairlady Z. The GT-R debuted on February 21, 1969 and the Fairlady Z debuted on October 18, 1969. Nissan has released two videos honoring these iconic models, showing every generation taking to the track.
It’s always great to see JNCs in motion, and this video is no exception. It covers all generations of the Z, starting with the S30. Curiously, few are the sportiest versions of the cars. Though filmed in Japan the S30 isn’t a Z432, both S130 and Z31 are 2+2 models, and the Z32 isn’t a twin-turbo. It ends on a 50th Anniversary 370Z. Still, there’s some good if brief footage of early testing of the S30 and really drives home the point that Zs are beloved across generations.
The GT-R video, on the other hand, is really fantastic. It covers every generation of Skyline GT-R from KPGC10 Hakosuka and KPCG110 Kenmeri to R32 through R34, capped off with a Bayside Blue 50th Anniversary R35 GT-R. The best part, though, is all six generations driving together, something you don’t see every day. Intercut with race footage, it’s thrilling to see the movement of the cars, the bodies lean into the curves.
Nissan gets a lot of guff for its current lineup, but fifty years is an important milestone. Besides, in this day and age it’s no small feat to have two performance icons remaining in your stable. Hopefully, both the GT-R and the Fairlady Z will see 50 more.
More exhaust notes are needed from those amazing sixes !!
Agreed – much preferred to music that all though started off well, quickly became monotonous. Ended up muting the sound and enjoying it that way.

Looks like the Zs are just the few they had in the Nissan Heritage Collection. I think they only have one or two S130s and Z31s, hence not the sportiest.Although the S130 is a Turbo and I think that might be their LHD Z32 from the collection, which I believe is a TT.
After reviewing my notes, my memory has been refreshed. I have actually seen that Z32 (with specs) a couple times. I’ll chalk that one up to the chaos created when it rains in SoCal.
Also got a couple Z postcard sets. As always, appreciate the coverage.
So the question is, why would they bother to repatriate a non-Turbo Z32 for the museum?

The Z-Cars are like the girl who is so hot, seductive and romantic at first only to get you to “put a ring on it”…then progressively turns into Jabba the Hutt.
It’s been wearing a metaphorical muumuu for decades now. I certainly wouldn’t cry in the event of a divorce!
The GT-R on the other hand, has arguably gotten better with age. She hasn’t settled down yet, but sure got her grove back during that fling with Carlos Ghosn!
